5/14/15 Update

This is the first of two updates that will come today. I apologize for getting behind. But I put together both missing updates. This is last week's, the week that allowed a full week to pass since Britney Spears's new single Pretty Girls debuted. Pretty Girls topped the chart with a whopping 36 points, a large number not seen since the peak of Taylor Swift's Style. The Britney Spears single made a massive leap from the 30s to overtake Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's See You Again (the current number one in the country). Although See You Again was ousted from the top spot, it gained in points. Speaking of points, the number 4 song, Jason Derulo's Want To Want Me, completes the rare trick of scoring one and only one point in each of the point category (meaning he topped exactly one chart, came in second on exactly one chart and so on...)

47 Charts were surveyed for this update, a slight dip in number from precious weeks, and that number decreases in the next update (maybe explainable by the fact that it's finals szn). As such, the point spread is less varied than in previous weeks and the lower positions have less points as well. That being said, around 120 individual songs were observed in this update. There are a couple notable debuts and re-entries: Little Big Town's Girl Crush is the biggest, making a top 20 debut and becoming one of the highest charting and debuting country songs in the history of this chart; Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor's Marvin Gaye also debuts; the most important debut though is obviously Becky G's Shower barely missing top 20; re-entering is David Guetta & Nicki Minaj's Hey Mama a song that already seems to be gaining traction on Billboard's charts and the charts around here.

Interestingly, this update features one of the fewest numbers of new debuts and a majority of the songs are songs that were previously already on the chart. A couple songs made some massive declines including Rihanna's two singles and Hilary Duff's newest (most likely due to the heavy use of her song in a poorly received add for a dating app). A couple songs do make some impressive gains, but not the amount that those dropping songs freefell and the position gains made by some songs is most likely due to the fact that less points overall were required for higher positions this week when compared to last. Most excitedly to me is that Topmaster 2, after months of chart updates contributed to a song along with somebody else and boosted the song a couple chart points; a first in the history of this chart! But all this makes for a more competitive chart in the next updates. Stay tuned. You will see this week's update shortly.

And with this update we are in the present day and all caught up

Sorry about that. I think we're out of the woods as far as late updates go. It's a strange update, but it's an update nonetheless. 44 charts were surveyed, down a couple from the previous update; but the points are down across the board. Possibly this is due to the fact that there were no real consensus favorite songs as even the current top 2 Pretty Girls and See You Again (which remain static, the only songs to do so) lost some points. Pretty Girls despite the lead, appears most vulnerable as the majority of its points are from topping a relatively few amount of charts, known to alternate number ones quickly, and it is likely to dip further next update.

There is a new song in the top 5, Taylor Swift's blockbuster Bad Blood re-enters at number 3, after debuting a couple weeks ago for a week. Taylor Swift also becomes the first artist to have two songs in the top 6 since Rihanna a couple weeks ago with Bitch Better Have My Money and American Oxygen.

As far as this actual chart goes, I decided to add a Last Week column so you all can see last week's chart position. Not much of note is happening on the chart; although, Big Bang becomes the first K-Pop group or artist to secure a top 10 with their ironically titled Loser. Besides that, there was a debut from Miguel's Coffee and X Ambassadors's Renegades; both of which might have some longevity. The only song likely to make major gains is Bad Blood, but there are no certainties and we will have to wait and see. Until next week (when I will be on time hopefully

). Who knows, maybe then we'll have a new Drake album at the rate his demos have been leaking, and maybe R8, Adele, and Kanye also
