It's not because they're pop, because, um, last time I checked, I do have pop and non-rock songs in my top 100 songs, and We Started Nothing would have been AT LEAST a close call on my albums list, had I listened to it before I made up my albums list.
Yeah, I'm a bit defensive, but I think it's time that people stop acting so shocked when people like myself and Johnald listen to something that isn't rock.

People still aren't accustomed to my love for pop music. Where the hell have they been for the past 2 years? Avril Lavigne is one of my most-played songs on Last.fm with "Losing Grip". That says enough.

You both will be forever associated with rock music, so the masses will forever be surprised.
BTW, of course guilty pleasures are pop/popular music! What else would they be?
Great selections, I have to say... "Jizz In My Pants" is a work of comedic genius right there.

Well, it depends on what genre of music you listen to, though, wouldn't it? Wouldn't rock be a guilty pleasure for someone who listens to pop or rap predominantly?
And the masses would, thus, be clueless. Great woik, everyone!

Attack of the Ambition: Top Ten MVs + a special surprise
Okay, here's my compromise for you guys. I really don't feel like putting a ton of effort into the top ten music videos list. Not only are some of the videos not available due to embedding, some of them are no longer on YouTube, thanks to Warner Music Group being total douchebags. So, I'm still going to post the top ten music videos, just with no special graphics or anything like that. Well, other than #1. As a consolation gift, I have one more piece of business to attend to, maybe two, if I have the balls to do it...
Two Close Calls:
Flyleaf - Sorrow
MGMT - Time to Pretend
[10] Radiohead - Jigsaw Falling Into Place
[9] Ashes Divide - The Stone
[8] Metallica - All Nightmare Long
[7] Disturbed - Indestructible
[6] Seether - Breakdown
[5] Santogold - L.E.S. Artistes
[4] The Ting Tings - Shut Up and Let Me Go
[3] Radiohead - House of Cards
[2] Gnarls Barkley - Who's Gonna Save My Soul?
[1] Weezer - Pork and Beans
[0] Muse - H.A.A.R.P.
Even though Muse is, without a doubt, my favorite band right now, and have been for over two years now, I will readily admit that I was beginning to feel like my fandom was waning ever so slightly. That's not to say that I still didn't adore them, because I did, but I think that other bands were taking up my attention (*cough*TheMarsVolta*cough*), and Muse began to get lost in the shuffle of awesome a bit..that is, until I first listened to H.A.A.R.P.. The MOMENT that "Knights of Cydonia" starts, in earnest, my heart immediately jumps up to the ceiling and doesn't come down until around the time that "Invincible" begins, only for it to pick right back up with the definitive version of said song, an absolutely gorgeous rendition of a song that, admittedly, wasn't one of my favorites on their #1 album of 2006, Black Holes and Revelations, but quickly became one thanks to one performance of the song. Of course, there's the well-known songs, even to the non-Muse fan. "Stockholm Syndrome" has never sounded more awesome and more bad ass, "Supermassive Black Hole" is still just as fun live, "New Born" will ensnare you and refuse to let go with its catchy riff, and "Map of the Problematique" still features some of the most awesome guitar work and drum work that Muse has ever done. "Starlight" needs no introduction, and is up there with the studio recording, which, if you really think about it, is an amazing accomplishment. "Time Is Running Out" is as sing-a-long of a song as Muse has in their collection, even moreso than "Knights of Cydonia", and, of course, then, there's "Hysteria", which features an updated solo that may even be more awesome than the studio version.
But what about the songs that may not seem like they fit, at first, to the non-hardcore Muse fans ("Micro Cuts", "Unintended", "Take A Bow", "Butterflies and Hurricanes"), those songs that only those who are into the band can relate to? Well, they become so important in the context of the performance, for various reasons. "Uninended" is a chance for everyone to catch their breath, but it's hard to, when Matthew Bellamy's vocals are just so hard to ignore. "Micro Cuts" is, more than likely, the most unknown song on the album, but it also becomes one of the show stealers, with one of the most unbelieveable choruses in all of rock. "Butterflies and Hurricanes" has long been one of my absolute favorite Muse songs, and it is also one of my favorite performances, as an epic song becomes even more epic in a live setting. "Take A Bow", meanwhile, is the show closer, and is just one of those songs that works as either an opening song or a closing song.
Look, I loved Death Magnetic, and, as far as studio albums go, it was #1, and it was a glorious #1. Even still, as much as that album kicks my ass, this album kicks my ass 100 times harder. Am I biased? A little bit. I mean, they are my favorite band, after all. But even non-Muse fans can appreciate a band that sounds just as good, if not better, live, and, in some cases, make songs sound so much more important and awesome. Seriously, I cannot recommend this album enough for anyone who likes to listen to music. If nothing else, seek out "Invincible", because it takes a song that I wasn't a big fan of and turns it into something special, and that, in essence, is what H.A.A.R.P. is: An amazing band, in their prime, turning some of their lesser known or more average songs into something special, and making some of their absolute classics sound even better. How could it not be my favorite album of the year?
Favorites: Well, all of them, but, in particular, "Invincible", "Knights of Cydonia", "Unintended", "Micro Cuts", "Hysteria", and, of course, "Starlight".
And, I think, for real, this time, that this is the end of the YECA. I could post one more special surprise, but there will, likely, be no more NEW material for all of you to enjoy. So, here's to a fine 2008, and here's to an even better 2009. And, seriously, thanks for commenting, whoever commented. YOU made this all worth it.

Shut Up and Let Me Go completely swagger-jacked the Stripes. Like, it didn't even try to be different.
Pork and Beans is a beautiful thing though.

Holy ****, I just realized with Johnny's post that the Have A Nice Day smiley still exists. Amazing!!!
anyway to the matters at hand, great stuff, Ryan. The videos list is solid, and Muse live always brings the thunder from down under (they are British, but let's say they are Australian to make my silly rhyme make sense).
if this is the end of your dealy, then you have done really great work. Can't wait for what you have planned next year (or, really this year).
