August 29th - September 4th, 2008
Although they had previously managed a sole week at #1 and spent many weeks in the shadows of
Rihanna and
Katy Perry,
Coldplay have the last laugh as
Viva La Vida ascends back to #1 for a second non-consecutive week, and the ladies of summer take a tumble. The rigid stranglehold of the summers "big three" seems to have finally dissipated, as
Alicia Keys continues to surprise moving up to #2, and Canada is well-represented with both
Theory of a Deadman and
Mobile in the top 5.
New to the top 10 this week is
M.I.A., who has been criminally robbed of hits on the chart before, and is finally getting her due.
Lady GaGa also continues to creep up; you can't turn on a radio in Ontario without hearing
Just Dance, its nuts. Coming close to the top 10 are the likes of
MGMT and
Apocalyptica, both of whom see good moves this week. All three of last weeks debuts, including
David Archuleta,
Duffy, and
Coldplay, all see solid movement this week.
After weeks and weeks of 3+ debuts every new chart, the trend don't stop and we've got some new entries that couldn't be any more diverse. The first is the comeback single from
Oasis, who have absolutely killed it with
The Shock of the Lightning. Close behind is the lead single from the new album to be released in October from
Kenny Chesney. Kenny hit #1 last year with
Never Wanted Nothing More and just missed the top 10 with
Don't Blink. This song could do very well. And last up is the new one from
Kings Of Leon, which shouldn't have a problem besting the #16 peak of
On Call.
