This is so delicious after 3 years of Katy Kats making excuses as to why Teenage Dream opened so low

What does the gold truck she used months ago to unveil the album title and a Popchips ad from like last year have to do with anything?

While these numbers are nothing amazing with all the promo she's done, I wouldn't count her out just yet. I read that her label plans on dragging this era out a la TD and she very well might end up doing over 2 million again. She seems to have longevity on her side...

|
That didn't happen just because of "GP aceptation", it happened because she promoted the album for 2 years, had a movie, a re-issue, 8 singles, etc. For example, the album was already out of the WW Top 40 in february 2012, even though The One That Got Away was in the WW top 10.

Michael Buble's album was among 2011's top three seller and does it have any hits?

Have you heard the phrases "singles artists" and "one hit wonders"?

but...
Lady Gaga - Born This Way - 2,298,000 opened with 1.108 million copies
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream - 2.800,000 opened with 192k
....
It's not about first week you fools. I know Katy had HUGE HUGE promotion, but in the end she ends up outselling all the others.
When you think about it, didn't Britney had HUGE HUGE promotion back when 'Circus' was released? Yeah, she opened with more than 500k, but she ended up with 1.7 million in the us.
I love all those artists, but you gotta keep it real. In the end Katy will outsell ALL of them, not sure about Gaga though. But you get my point.

LMAO at the predictable meltdowns in here. This is likely to improve on TD's opening week by 100k, that's pretty good. Teenage Dream bested many of her peers' previous albums in the US on longevity, Katy's albums have never been frontloaded yet she keeps improving her debut sales weeks.
And then there's the comparison to Taylor Swift. Listen, Taylor has a huge following in country music lovers and that's all there is to it. Katy doesn't have an extremely reactive and stubborn core like that and Taylor's albums are always praised into the high heavens (for some reason), they are in two completely different positions.

So a million copies sold every year. How is that more impressive than any other Pop girl?Katy can try to drag out this era as long as she wants but at the end of the day, nobody wants to hear the same song single after single. That's why People Like Us flopped after Stronger. That's why RTW flopped after SL. PRISM is sonically stagnant for the most part and PRISM will run its course faster than TD. Katy's time will come and PRISM will be nowhere close to having TD like success.

That was close.

Brit is not at her peak right now.. the fact that she is releasing an album after 15 years and all the criticism is enough for me.
I think Katy will have longevity tho.

Of course you would use Britney's post breakdown numbers to make your points. How pathetic.
Why dont you use her numbers at her peak? Last time I checked Katy is having her prime right now.

I posted that I won't be too surprised with anything 300k-450k,but was expecting around 340k...So yeah, this is a bit lower than the lowest I could expect. But these are just early projections.I really feel like it'll do 325k.While it's not the first week sales that matter the most in the long run,it'll be embarassing for someone on the top of the pop world + doing endless promo to open with less than 300k,so let's hope that won't happen.

ATRL never fails to amuse me with its hypocrisy. You can use massive promo against one artist but not the other? The truth is, these numbers are horrid (all jokes aside, I did expect at least 500k). She was forced onto the public for the past two months only to pull in 300k, aka the amount Britney pulled in with Femme Fatale? Millions of dollars and so much time put into this WASTED because they thought they could force people to care. You can justify it all you want with "well, Roar is #1" and "album sales are declining" but it remains a horrid number and each and every one of you know it. If the fans seriously thought she was doing all that promo for nothing, y'all should've rallied together and told her to STOP.

This (with less bitterness).
And so this (?):

The BTW era lasted roughly 10 months. TD lasted 2 years. The fact that Katy barely eclipsed GaGa in the US is beyond mediocre. And shall we compare WW sales?
Katy is just not a force to be reckoned with without Capitol backing her 1000%. This is why Katy is just a product of her label. This is why Katy's numbers are draggable. This is why Katy will never be considered a threat. This is why Katy is just...there.

This bitch is coming off the most promoted era of all time with billions of AI not to mention a movie devoted to how awesomely relatable and talented she is, she has a safe, eager-to-please-everyone image and music professionally engineered for the masses, she has 200M+ AI from Roar alone, her "cure cancer and buy Prism" radio ads have been nonstop all month, her TV commercials for Walmart aka the biggest music retailer in the US have been nonstop all month, iTunes even gave her a countdown to Prism on its front page all month, every radio station literally dropped everything all day yesterday and made it Katy Perry Day…and she's struggling to hit 300K? Total media saturation: radio, TV, print, billboards…and she's struggling to hit 300K?

Katy is just not a force to be reckoned with without Colombia backing her 1000%. This is why Katy is just a product of her label. This is why Katy's numbers are draggable. This is why Katy will never be considered a threat.

She's not even signed to Columbia
And why are worldwide sales relevant when this entire thread is about US sales?
