I've seen every BP nominee except Bridge of Spies and The Martian. Spotlight and Mad Max are my faves.

Very happy for these nominations. Only thing that bothers me is the obvious category fraud for Alicia and Rooney.
Charlotte getting in best actress is the best news of the day
Extremely happy for Rachel too, finally some recognition for a role that is very different from her usual, but was carried on so well. Versatility
Surprised to see Carol missing best picture. Deserved it a lot!
And yes at Tom Hardy being in two best picture nominees

Earned It got nominated but not Love Me Like You Do.... LMLYD is a way better song in every way than Earned It!

LMLYD may be the bigger bop but that's what the Oscars are about.

TALENT ALWAYS WINS! I'm so incredibly happy that The Academy recognized Jennifer Lawrence and Rachel McAdams for their INCREDIBLE roles on Joy and Spotlight.
Although I'm Rachel's biggest fan, I must admit her competition is pretty stiff. I would be pleasently surprised and happy if she ends up taking it, though.
I seriously hope Brie doesn't win over Saoirse or Jennifer, they both deserve that award.
Ridley was completely snubbed on the Directing category, and I was also surprised to not see Todd Haynes there. I think Jacob Tremblay deserved a nom on the actor category and I was surprised not to see Inside Out on the Best Picture one.
Iñarritu should snatch his award for best directing, but best movie should definitely go to Spotlight.

I know I really hope none of them win because of this ****ery.. I really like Alicia a lot but I'm not here for this fraud ****. The fact they even allow this is even worse hoping Regina George wins this one tbh

I watched Inside Out twice and it was so amazing and not just amazing as in "so funny and sooo cuteeeee!" but actually amazing. The movie is a look into a child's head and how the main emotions are creating this child's mind and feelings - not sure if I was able to word it correctly - but the movie is one of the most creative, innovative - and, yes - also funny and cute - films I have ever seen.

Animated films don't always equal kids movie... especially from Pixar. Inside Out deserved a BP nom but is winning animated so whatever.

Wtg, lol at Sorkin and Tarantino of all people missing. I only care about the former cuz of the possible damage to Winslet’s chances.
Lead w/the obvious. I didn’t lose confidence in JLaw cuz the precedent for an Oscar nom w/a Comedy Globe nom minus Sag and Bafta is Keira due to racism against Asians. And Keira is no JLaw in stature.
S Actor I know a fair number of people thought Hardy would be a classic coattail, but I thought the academy wouldn’t want the backlash from White is Right again...
I didn’t buy Tremblay cuz since the only film since 1980 with a child male actor nommed is 6th Sense, a mega-smash that was only behind Star Wars the year it came out & an obvious T5 nominee. The 70s and 60s each had 1, and they won Best Picture. He needed a stronger haul than just Sag.
S Actress Vikander & Mara: Sag Awards era, the only predecessors are Whale Rider and The Reader where the studio tried to argue no one was lead. So I didn’t buy them in lead.
JJL: Major-ish ‘big 4’ critics’ awards for 4 movies now; it would be absurd if she still wasn't recognized. Even Martin got an Academy honor.
McAdams: Having never lost faith in Spotlight, basically the only BP or BD winning works in the last half-century+ without any actor attention (inc actor-directors) starred Asians, who AMPAS doesn’t like. But I thought Ruffalo would be enough, so I was wrong about Mirren making it in. Hooray for Queen Regina George getting in!
Winslet: 2x Oscar winner plz.
Picture/Director...Disgusting homophobia. Ready the pitchforks against Room, everybody. Seriously. Room? Room?!
I’ve never really lost confidence in Spotlight despite the weirdly weak guilds, and it ended up overperforming w/acting and editing nods.
I always use this stat, but in the last half-century, there are 3 directors with multiple BP wins: Coppola who twice got 4 male actors in with a win apiece, Forman who got the Big Five then got an Actor win despite internal competition, and Eastwood who twice directed himself to lead noms and who scored 4 acting wins in 2 years including the rare Actor/S Actor combo.
The Martian...could expect 1 acting nom, while Gladiator got 1 acting win after Crowe didn’t win much else; ‘sides, the dominant directing awards winner that year was made by and with Asians, which isn’t a factor against Spotlight.
Revenant will get 1 acting win and pulled in a coattail, while Birdman’s actors went 0 for 3. Plus, back to back?
And Big Short seems too lacking in high praise, is a modern “comedy” (unlike the art-of-acting-centric period pieces Shakespeare in Love/Artist), and I have to think the dearth of critics’ awards mean a little something. It’s not like it’s going against an Asian-directed gay movie, so voters won’t be desperately looking for an alternative to Spotlight.
But we’ll see.
Asian.
5th year in a row that someone wins 2 of the “big 4” and gets a snub anyway: Albert Brooks/Drive, Matthew McConaughey/Bernie&Magic Mike, James Franco/Spring Breakers, Timothy Spall/Mr. Turner, Kristen Stewart/Clouds of Sils Maria. This already ties for the most in a decade (though of course some awards started existing later).
