NG Presents: Top 20 Albums of 2007 (Part V) # 6-5
06. Alicia Keys - As I Am
+ Best Tracks: Wreckless Love, Lesson Learned (Feat. John Mayer), Sure Looks Good To Me, No One, Like You'll Never See Me Again +
- The long awaited disc has arrived after four year since Alicia Key's Diary album. "As I Am" defines Alicia Keys as an artist who still has a considerable natural gift for songwriting as well as having a great voice. Her vocal made a big transformation as one can see in the currently number one single, "No One". Alicia definitely shows progression in her music whether she has a soft rock influence to write a song out of her league like "Sure Looks Good To Me", which she co-wrote with Linda Perry, or the fact that she chose to collaborate with her fellow singer-songwriter John Mayer in the track "Lesson Learned". Alicia proves us that in the state of R&B today; it is not just about being a songstress, but also able to breakthrough the ordinary and make the music you can call your own.
5. Justice - Cross
+ Best Tracks: D.A.N.C.E, New Jack, Phantom, Phantom II, The Party, DVNO +
- This album opened up my ear to a whole another level. I discovered a genre and sound I never thought I would be into, but once I did I made sure I hold on to it. Even if you haven't really sat down and listened to Justice, you've probably heard "D.A.N.C.E." without realizing it. "Cross" is a club-banger with an oh-so-effective melodies that gets you pumping everytime you press play on your iPod. Tracks such as, "New Jack" posits robot-voiced synthesizers over immaculately produced details like being high during a session of Tetris or "The Party", a 4-minutes track in heaven with singer Uffie telling you to come party. So if you're up for an attention striker kind of album, "Cross" should definitely bring that funky side out of you as well as completely blow the **** out of your mind.
Tomorrow will be update from the single list.
