My Favourite Madonna albums in order:
Music
Ray Of Light
Bedtime Stories
American Life
Erotica
True Blue
Like A Prayer/Confessions
Hard Candy
Like A Virgin
The rest
I think I need to reconnect with a lot of her older work a lot more, especially the soundtrack albums and hidden b-sides. The only b-sides I have right now are a few from the Music era.

Try "I'm Breathless". It's true that almost everyone hates it (*cough cough Icing*), but there are some really enjoyable songs there.

I remember hearing this all over the radio back in the day. I'm forever pissed this song was ignored on GHV2 and Celebration. It's a great song, touching lyrics, stellar production.

#49 - DEAR JESSIE
Average: 7.6944 - Highest: 10 (x4), Lowest: 4 (x1)
Writers: Madonna, Patrick Leonard
Producers: Madonna, Patrick Leonard
About the composition of this song, I'll just quote a little part from the Wikipedia text, because it sums it up perfectly:
Quote:
One day, while recording of the title track was going on at Jonny Yuma Studios, producer Patrick Leonard had to pick up his daughter Jessie from school and, since his wife was out of town, had to bring her back to the studio. Madonna, who was initially angry with Leonard for his late arrival, struck up a rapport with Jessie. She commented: "It was like as if I was my mother and [she] was me. We were playing in our backyard again." Witnessing their connection, Leonard approached Madonna with a song he had written for his daughter, titled "Dear Jessie". Madonna changed some of the lyrics and agreed to record the track for Like a Prayer; it was finished within the next three days.
|
And this is Jessie:
It was released on the UK (reaching #5 there), some European countries, Australia and Japan.
I don't think she ever performed it live, but I might be wrong.
The video is beautiful and sweet, featuring a little girl in her room watching as everything becomes animated: violins, pink elephants, little soldiers, and Madonna herself, as an animated little fairy. This might be the only video where she doesn't appear. It's beautiful and sweet, I recommend you all to watch.
I can't see how anyone could hate this song. It's so cute!
8 from me.

Dear Jessie is brills. If Sgt Pepper or Pet Sounds had a fairytale-y track, it would would be Dear Jessie. One of her warmest songs.

Oh, and from what I've heard Madonna did the picture with a Minnie Mouse hat for the single cover because people used to call her "Minnie Mouse on helium" when referring to her voice back then...

#50 - I'LL REMEMBER
Average: 7.6944 - Highest: 10 (x3), Lowest: 4 (x1)
Writers: Patrick Leonard, Madonna, Richard Page
Producers: Madonna, Patrick Leonard (is this the first Patrick song to leave?)
This song was recorded after all the mess Madonna went through with SEX and Erotica. Her label wanted to soften her image, and then they decided she should sing it for the soundtrack of With Honors.
And well, it was successful. It peaked at #2 in the US and #7 in the UK. It did well in the rest of Europe, too.
I've never seen her performing it live. If anyone has, share it!
The video features Madonna with a similar look to the one in "Rain", singing the song at a recording studio. It features scenes from With Honors in the back.
I love this song. Its first 3 seconds are already an 8 for me. It's so sweet, so tender, so good! And her voice sounds heavenly. I gave it an 8.5, but now I think I should've rated it a little higher. Maybe a 9?

I never heard Dear Jessie.
I might listen to it after reading ImpressiveInstant's and LitteDreamer's reception to it.
