Did you not like Born to Die? It seems like it. I never felt that her lyrics were "faux-controversial" nor do I feel that the production in BTD was anymore homogeneous than what she has released now, if anything it has been less [so far], but perhaps I was duped into believing the stories she told. I was completely in love with her in 2011/ 2012.
I fell in love with Lana and the story she told, but now it seems like she's telling a completely different story and serving a completely different demographic. Which is fine and I expected it, It's just kind of sad to see what I knew go. Each time we get something new from her, less and less of what I knew from her music is there. For me, there's more to it than just the old American feel.
But like I said, I'm waiting to hear everything else.

Eh, faux-controversial was a bit harsh but I couldn't think of the exact word I should've used there. The lyrical content was overdone on BTD occasionally, but it's not as bad as I made it seem. I really liked Born to Die when it came out, but as time passed I just don't like it as an album. I love and will blare most of the songs individually (barring Radio and the new National Anthem), but when taken as a whole the flaws in the songs become clearer to me and they sort of all blend together. I actually find myself running back to AKA more. Maybe that's because the first song I loved right away was Pawn Shop Blues and I'm ironically expecting that kind of vibe from her subconsciously, who knows.
I'm sure there'll be more of the lyrical content you're looking for, but like you said we'll wait and see. It's been buried in both WC and this, so maybe they'll be more blatant in other songs.
