I come from a family of 6 figure salaries. My dad was a lawyer, a very successful one at that. Registered nurses, doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs and business owners, and teachers. Being black and America and accomplishing that level of success definitely takes the right kind of mentality that Pharrell speaks of as well as thick skin, but that doesn't just completely dictate the **** we, as African Americans still have to endure on a daily basis. It's not about the type of mentality you have. It's the fact that we should be treated equally and it shouldn't require any type of mindset or thought process on our behalves to accomplish that.
"New black" is basically a way of telling black people we should ignore the social injustices that we are subjected to instead of speaking out about them and fighting against them. Kudos to Pharrell for accomplishing what he has, but it doesn't change the fact that he probably had to work twice as hard as most white producers that are on the same level as him.

BAM! Right there in the bold. Pharrell has been producing for HOW long and he's only NOW getting mainstream recognition. He produced so many mainstream and urban hits but was only known by mainly the US Urban community.
It took him into his 40s to finally have his own mainstream fame. Yet, we have Diplo, Avicii, Skrillex and more young producers who didn't have to work as hard or as long to get as famous as they are now.
There's all the proof you need that miniorities have to work 2 - 10 times as hard as white people to get where they are.
For Pharrell to ignore that and act like he easily got his success is a backstab to his own race. If anything, HE should understand how hard things are instead of saying that mess in the OP.
