A debate needs to be controversial and everyone here seems to think that's a bad idea lol
I read an interesting opinion piece on the NYT that suggests the state model is outdated. Wyoming is just 60000 people living in a wide territory. What even connects them culturally? We are allocating government resources in very inefficient ways, we should make transportation a priority and connect large metropolitan areas to less populated areas. Federalism has its downs.
I'm assuming that the point is either to split the rich areas of the state from the poor areas of the state, or for political reasons (if this happened and three of these states were hypothetically Republican, the party would gain six Senators, a couple governors, etc).
