Shawn Mendes' 'Stitches' Hits No. 1 on Adult Contemporary Chart
Shawn Mendes earns his first No. 1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary radio airplay chart (dated April 30), as "Stitches" lifts 2-1. The track tops its third airplay tally; it ruled Pop Songs for two weeks in November and Adult Pop Songs for a week in February.
"Stitches" halts Adele's 21-week command on Adult Contemporary with "Hello," which remains tied for the longest No. 1 stay by a woman and the third-longest domination among all acts in the chart's nearly 55-year history.
Mendes' new leader (and first entry) on the Nielsen Music-measured AC chart is from his debut full-length album,
Handwritten, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 last May and has sold 370,000 copies to date in the U.S. "Stitches" has sold 2.3 million downloads. Mendes first arrived with 2014's The Shawn Mendes EP, which debuted and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 103,000.
