Can't even imagine having non-accepting parents. My parents are quite run-of-the-mill, and they were definitely parents, not "friends" so I was nervous - but all was fine. If they had reacted badly though, I would never have forgiven them for their ignorance. Life would have been tough, and without their help I couldn't have gone to university and now have had a decent-ish job at 23, but man - the thought of them being not okay with it would have been a goodbye from me. (and it would have been tough - but there's no option in my mind. Take it or leave it.)

I'm not gay but the whole thing has become so blase and pedestrian. Why does anyone even have to "come out" and make a big show? It fosters an environment of drama and unneeded conversation. It's so tired. If you're gay and get asked about girls say "no, that's not really my thing" and move along. No need for the big Broadway production.

Being gay is still not accepted by the majority of people in the world, so coming out (to your family) is still a hard thing to do and its not a big show, you dont know their stories and how they are dealing with it. And since you arent gay then you dont have room to talk about what is wrong or what is good for gay people to do with their life and how they are approaching their sexuality.

This is so true. My mom just asked what I liked, and I said men.

If someone asks me what I like, I say guys. If they bring up girls, I make my sexuality clear.

Other than that, I don't 'come out' as in 'I have to tell you something...' because I don't. It's not an event.
I'd definitely advise y'all to just come out when they ask (because they will eventually).

This. I literally came out in the club when I was drunk and just told my friends I was with, who were all fine. There are still people in my life who have no clue, and even though I would be honest if they asked, the whole "coming out" process and having to sit someone down and announce it to them honestly makes me cringe.

However, having to wait until some asks has its limitations, as you honestly are a much happier and free-er person when those closest to you know, as you can still find yourself treading on eggshells

Why do people feel the need to come out? Just be your self. That's enough. No need to make your being gay a big drama filled production.

How do gay people expect others to get used to gays if gays act like being gay is such a bad thing that they have to have a "coming out" moment?

because being gay isn't accpeted in most cases, and your parents expect you to be in a heterosexual marriage and have kids.

it's hard for them to accept something that they fear of because of religion or just pure tradition or "what will people say" mentality.

People are simply raised like that, even I was homophobic bafore puberty happened

I'm planning on living my own life once I move in some western country after I finish this year of college.

Sometimes I do feel trapped, but at least I have my friends, and I'm sure they would accept me if I ever come out to them, and some of them probably already have their doubts, but it's just too hard. I don't wanna make it awkward.

I used to think like this, but never coming out, ever? That just sounds too sad. Maybe someday you can move to a larger city?

Anyway I do agree that I wouldn't want to make it an event. It makes me anxious just to think about it.

because once your parents accept your homosexuality (hopefully) they will stop with their prejustice of gay people.

everything changes once people meet a person who is openly gay!

I'm not out yet but I know my family will be accepting. They kinda give me we know your gay just waiting for you to tell us . My friends on the other hand it might be a toss up.

I'm not coming out to my family until I've moved out and become financially independent. Hope it's this year...
