Coldplay aren’t doing an Adele, but they are doing a bit of a Taylor Swift.
MBW understands that the huge UK band’s hotly anticipated new album, A Head Full Of Dreams, will be on paid streaming services including Apple Music and TIDAL when it’s released around the world at midnight tonight (December 4).
However, the record will not be available on Spotify – and you can probably guess why.
MBW is told that Coldplay and their management specifically pushed for the record to be made exclusively available on Spotify’s premium tier in its opening week, but Daniel Ek’s company stuck to its guns.
Spotify told the band that it would not make an exception to its stringent commercial rule – that all albums released on the platform have to be made available on both its free and paid-for tiers. http://www.musicbusinessworldwide.co...be-on-spotify/
Mess at people saying Adele and Taylor impacted this when many other artists, including Bey in 2013 and Coldplay themselves in 2014, did the same thing.

No she didn't. 21 was available for streaming immediately.

Coldplay's album will be on Apple Music (they have a deal with Apple which includes a commercial) and Tidal (Chris is a shareholder but not Coldplay)
Kinda wish Spotify would just allow the premium only thing. It satisfies the egos of these celebrities and allows more people to listen to the album. The free option is crap and the adverts are annoying anyway, everyone should just upgrade.

Went up a year and a half after the initial release. (June 2012)

nn I hope Spotify changes their policy soon, I'm getting a bit tired of this (as a Spotify subscriber).
it's just not on spotify because they refuse to withhold certain albums for paid users only, and artists make no money from free spotify streams. it's why taylor's stuff is on Apple Music & Tidal (and other paid streaming sites).
I love how big selling artists are taking a stand and doing this stuff, because they can afford to. They are the ones that need to do this stuff to make a difference, because newer/lower selling artists can't afford to withhold their music from all the streaming services.
