Some girl who was going for the same job as me in an office (so keyboard work, etc etc) decided to show up to both the interview and typing test with like lady gaga inspired nails.

but to turn someone down because of hairstyles is stOpid
I don't think it's wrong to look for a specific aesthetic look. For example, no one here would complain about someone not getting a job because they were full of tattoos. However, in this case her hair is not messy and does not appear ratchet. She seems like a woman who takes care of herself and I don't see how the braids look bad. If they were rainbow colored I could see the problem, but she looks cute. I don't see why they think it's not professional.
An employer 'generally' cannot single you out or discriminate against you. Dress code policies must target all employees so if their policy is no braids it applies to everyone. Just like I had to wear a suit and tie and be clean shaven or properly groomed if I had a beard back in the day. I could not have long hair, women could, this was not discrimination. All women on a plant floor had to wear pants, no dresses for safety reasons.
It does not even say what job she was applying for, so I have so serious doubts about her story.

the OP makes it seems like white people can work in a professional company with braids and dreadlocks. Most people consider white people with dreadlocks to have dirty hair so they wouldnt even be let in the door :toofuny3:

If you guys think this is fake then you aren't very aware of the world we're living in. Natural black hairstyles are deemed "unprofessional" all the time. Braids, dreads, afros, etc. are all commonly seen as unsuitable for a professional environment, which is racism. If the hair isn't dirty or unkempt there is nothing wrong with it. Black women are pretty much expected to keep their hair straightened which takes a lot of time and can damage the hair over time, there are only so many hairstyles you can do with black hair
They've probably hired former or prospects that had unprofessional, unkept braids but if they are professional and neat then i see no problem. Thats unfortunate.
Black women can't win. If black women wear natural hair or hairstyles, they're called unprofessional and get fired. If black women wear straight hairstyles, people turn the cultural appropriation argument around and use it against them.
