It's obviously Gaga. More average album sales, more successful singles, more successful tours, bigger peak, more media attention, more impact, fashion icon, champion of LGBT rights. Even pop stars were paying attention to her, while a lot of them snubbed and ignored Avril. She also hasn't been harmed by accusations of racism dragging her down

Avril's career is okay too though! Very solid C-list pop girl position with a small but dedicated fanbase. I feel like she became more of a normal pop girl than anti-pop pop girl though, which cost her a lot of fans

All I'm saying is you can't compare touring in the early 00's to the 10's, the market was extremely different, I know some veterans were huge. But someone as relevant as Taylor for example wouldn't be doing a 200m grossing world tour in 2003.

And outside Complicated and GF Avril didn't have that much hit singles compared to Gaga.
