I would describe it as a more self aware and 80's 1989. Kind of like if you made the Hotline Miami or Drive soundtrack into a sparkly, girly, bubblegum pop dance party.
Yeah after All That came out that combined with IRLY gave me high hopes.
And she definitely delivered even better tracks on the album like Boy Problems, Warm Blood, Your Type, etc.
I did expect a good record actually, she's a great songwriter tbh. What I did not expect was for her to outdo KISS.
I would describe the sound as more sparkly, neon and colorful tan KISS, also i feel it has more 80s elements than 1989, this really has it at heart. And Ariel Rechtshaid is amazing; this along with the Desired Effect by Brandon Flowers are my favorite albums so far this year.
I would like to listen to the songs she did with Jack Antonoff.
Carly was always a great songwriter. Kiss was literally made in 1 month to ride CMM's success, and it was a good album for one that was so rushed. However, Emotion is like a trillion times better and so many critics are saying it's better than 1989.
