Speak Now is actually inspired by Haley Williams of Paramore. In 2010 Taylor tweeted that she went to her first ever wedding. There were pics of her and Haley there.

Haley used to date the Groom, Josh Farro, who was the guitarist and co-writer in Paramore. Taylor released Speak Now a few months later. It describes an alternate reality where Hayley had stood up and protested during that wedding.

I Knew You Were Trouble and Treacherous were both about Jake Gyllenhal. This was confirmed by Brian Mansfield, a journalist for USA Today, who is close to Taylor. He interviewed her prior to Red's release. He confirmed that Taylor had told him Treacherous and Trouble were about the same person.

Treacherous is about Jake Gyllenhal as confirmed by the liner notes spelling out the chorus of The Temper's Trap's song, Sweet Disposition. This is known to be one of Jake's fave indie bands and their biggest song, Sweet Disposition, was at it's peak in the US during the time when Taylor was dating Jake.

This track title, Sweet Disposition was also mentioned in the song, All Too Well, which is also known to be about Jake. This shows a clear link being made by Taylor between Jake and Sweet Disposition. So it follows that Treacherous is about Jake. As Brian Mansfield confirmed, Treacherous and Trouble were about the same person, then Trouble is also about Jake.

WANEGBT was about Jake too, as is most of the album Red. Jake likes Indie bands (see above). There is a line about indie bands in WANEGBT. Taylor said that WANEGBT was written off the cuff, just after a conversation with one of her ex's best friends, who said he thought she was getting back together with her ex. Taylor said this conversation happened in a recording studio. This guy she had a conversation with was Adam Levine, who is best friends with Jake. He was in the recording studio, because like Taylor, he was working with Max Martin on the album Overexposed during the same period as Taylor recorded WANEGBT, 22 and Trouble.


Ronan is written to honour a 4 year old boy who died of Cancer called Ronan Thompson. Taylor is now friends with his mother, who she has given a co-credit for the song. All proceeds from this song go to cancer charity.


Starlight is written about her friend, Ethel Kennedy, recounting a young Ethel and Bobby Kennedy on a night out while they were courting. Ethel must have told her stories about that part of her life. Taylor wrote it to honour Ethel's memories of her courtship as a gift to Ethel.


Holy Ground is written about Joe Jonas and her reconciliation with him. It is about remembering the good times of that relationship, rather than the ending of it. It makes reference to him appearing at several of her concerts during the Speak Now Tour. Note that Taylor performed Holy Ground recently in her first 1989 concert in Ireland. This was her first concert after she posted that Instagram pic of her on that boat in London that showed her hanging out socially with Joe.

Literally the only song She has EVER actually named the subject of is "Forever & Always," which was written about Joe Jonas pretty much immediately after their break-up.
