We all look forward to a new year, with new artists and new music, here are the artists I think will dominate 2010.
- Ke$ha
Why? - Well Ke$ha has definitely ended 2009 with a bang. "TiK ToK" has became a Worldwide smash peaking within the Top 5 in the States, Australia, the UK, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and Norway. She also appeared on Flo Rida's "Right Round" as a mysterious feature artist, who we never knew who was, until Late Summer when we finally get our first glimpse of the New Pop Sensation of 2010. Her first Solo Record, "Animal", will be released in the first week of January, so it looks like it's got the first chance of becoming big. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, she is seen as a trashy, Whiskey sipping, Mick Jagger lover pop star that's going to set the World alight, I expect big things for this girl.
- Ellie Goulding
Why? - This girl first came to my attention on a Sunday afternoon while I was studying. I was listening to Radio 1, and the presenter introduced the Single, stating that the girl was going to do big things. I never exactly expected anything massive, but the single was awesome. Some reminiscent of so many other tracks, but so much better. It is a perfect track from start to finish, and definitely a song that you should be listening to. She appeared on Jools Holland a couple of times, and her brilliantly husky, warbly voice made me want this girl to have all the success she could possibly have. She has also been awarded with the Critics' Choice Award at the Brits which has previously been won by ADELE and Florence + The Machine. I am championing to be big in 2010, listen to her first track, "Under the Sheets" below.
- Owl City
Why? - Just like Ke$ha, Owl City has already made an impression on the music scene in 2009. Hitting the number one spot with "Fireflies" in both the States and Denmark, his hit single became an unexpected hit, and I'm sure we were all a little surprised to see that it was a number one single, not something we all thought would happen. The man first came to my attention in around May this year, when my friend had a couple of his songs on her Webpage. The first song I heard of his, was "If My Heart Was a House". I never payed much attention to it, but I never wrote it off entirely. Before "Fireflies" became a number one hit, I fell in love with it. And to this day, I still am, as it is currently inside my Top 5 singles. I'm sure you will agree with me in saying that Owl's success will continue through 2010.
- Marina and the Diamonds
Why? - This Welsh songstress, and her back-up band, is a sure hit for 2010. Following on the back of such Welsh biggies like Duffy and Jem, Marina and her Diamonds are releasing their first album "The Family Jewels" in February 2010. With soft soul ballads, to wavey fast-beat tracks. Her voice definitely reminds me of Florence Welch's, or as you all know her by Florence + the Machine. Her track "Obsessions" has been championed by NME magazine, and it definitely is my favourite of hers. If you haven't checked her music out yet, then listen below to "Obsessions".
I totally agree with Owl City, but I dont know I just hope he doesnt become a one hit wonder
I never hear of Ellie before but I liked that song you posted!
DAMN, you hit the spots with those artists. They will definitely hit it big in 2010. I pretty much agree with everything you say here. I LOVE Marina & the Diamonds. She's amazing and I'm glad we both like her.
I'm a huge TV fanatic, probably as much as I am a music fanatic, and 2009 was no exception for TV taking up my life. Whether it was Talk Shows, Reality TV, Comedies, or Hard-Hitting Drama's I was watching them. I've narrowed it down to 20 of the best shows that you need to see. Keep in mind that I'm British, and there will be some you've never heard of.
20. Miranda
Starring: Miranda Hart, Sarah Hadland, Tom Ellis, Patricia Hodge, Sally Phillips, James Holmes
Original Airdate: 09 November 2009
Channel: BBC Two
Stand Out Episode: Holiday
You take one look at the name of the show, and one look at the lead role, and I bet your thinking Susan Boyle all over again. It's not exactly a show that you would go out your way of watching right away, well that's how it was for me. I happened to have nothing to watch one night at 8:30pm, and came across the Comical gem, and from then on, I've been hooked. Starring the extremely funny Miranda Hart, it tells you the story of an unsocially accurate 40-something trying to find a man and live the life her mother wants, while getting into hilariously embarrassing situations like being caught half naked with her head inbetween the gates of a park entrance and pretending to go on holiday to Egypt, but actually only staying at the hotel along the road. It has also recently been picked up for a second season, so it's definitely a must-watch. You get my stamp of approval.
19. Harry Hill's TV Burp
Starring: Harry Hill
Original Airdate: Saturday 10 October 2009
Channel: ITV
Stand Out Episode: There is none.
The hilarious comic, Harry Hill, continues to amuse the British public with his hysterical take on the most watched shows of the week. Harry never fails with his series which has been going strong now for 7 years, and has been picked up for another series in the Autumn of 2010. This season, Harry would search for people in different TV shows such as Britain's Best Butcher that looked like him, and then bring them into the studio at the end of the episode. He also poked fun at Paris Hilton's annoying catchphrase "TTYN" or "TTYL" from her horrible ITV series Paris Hilton's British Best Friend. And he carried on his now infamous dance routine of Britney Spears' Womanizer from The X Factor last year. He carried on another fantastic season, many happy returns Harry.
18. American Idol
Starring: Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, Kara DioGaurdi, Ryan Seacrest
Original Airdate: Wednesday January 14 2009
Channel: Fox, ITV2
Stand Out Episode: Top 9
American Idol returned for what seemed like the 1,000th season, but surprisingly this was one of their best years' yet. With a new judge, Kara DioGaurdi joining the team, we weren't knowing what to expect. I can tell you, I wasn't a fan of Kara, seemed as though she was trying to be a little bit like Paula, but with more sense. The best thing about Kara this season was her little tiff with Bikini Girl about how to sing Mariah Carey's Vision of Love, stand out for her, but apart from that, she never set the season alive as much as she'd hope. All that asides, we got some great artists from this season, although the wrong person won, we still got to marvel at the talents that were Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, and Danny Gokey, all fantastic singers, but sadly, and surprisingly Kris Allen won the whole competition. At the end of this season, it was announced that Paula Abdul had quit the show for good, and had been replaced by the wonderful Ellen DeGeneres, hopefully an even better season next year.
17. FlashForward
Starring: Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan
Original Airdate: Thursday September 24 2009
Channel: ABC, Five
Stand Out Episode: White to Play
This was one of my most anticipated shows of the year, and was super excited to discover that the UK were going to get new episodes 4 days behind the American premiere, which was even more exciting. The show's concept and idea process was even more intriquing. A mysterious event causes nearly everyone on the planet to simultaneously lose consciousness for 137 seconds, during which people see what appear to be visions of their lives approximately six months in the future—a global “flashforward”. A team of Los Angeles FBI agents, led by Stanford Wedeck (Vance) and spearheaded by Mark Benford (Fiennes), begin the process of determining what happened, why, and whether it will happen again. Benford contributes a unique perspective on the investigation; in his flashforward, he saw the results of six months of investigation that he had done on the flashforward event, and he and his team use those clues to recreate the investigation. The official premise from Wikipedia there. Although I enjoyed the first few episodes, I lost interest in the show, and quickly stopped watching, who knows if I will continue watching it when it returns to our screens in the New Year, we'll need to wait and see.
16. Two and a Half Men
Starring: Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer, Angus T. Jones, Conchata Ferrell, Holland Taylor, Marin Hinkle, Jennifer Taylor
Original Airdate: Monday 22 September 2008
Channel: CBS, Comedy Central UK
Stand-Out Episode: Taterhead Is Our Love Child
Yes, and before you say it, I know there has been a new season already, but the UK are a little behind on TAAHM episodes. Never the less, Two and a Half Men's 2008/09 season was still a brilliant one. Although it hasn't been their best season, and some of the storyline's are getting stale, it still makes Two and a Half Men stand tall as one of the best comedies' on U.S. screens. In this season we saw such things as Charlie and Jake fight for the affections of a waitress too old for Jake, and too young for Charlie, aswell as Charlie becoming tied down with new girlfriend Chelsea. Although the storylines continue to centre around Charlie deciding whether to be tied down, and Alan now becoming a bit of a pimp with the ladies, there are still some hilariously witty one-liners. The show has already started a new season for 2009/10, but won't air in the UK until Spring 2010.
Other specials:
Top One-Off Special:
Cha'mone Mo Fo: 'Bo Selecta - the Michael Jackson Special
Starring: Leigh Francis
Original Airdate: Thursday 24 September 2009

Leigh Francis returned to 'Bo Selecta with a one-off special dedicated to the life and work of Michael Jackson, with a funny side. Taking the piss onced again of not only, Michael, but stars such as Oprah Winfrey, Simon Cowell, Kanye West, and Craig David, plus many more.
Top Soap Opera:
EastEnders
Starring: Too many actors/actresses to name
Original Airdate: Thursday 01 January 2009
Channel: BBC One
EastEnders has been on British screens for near enough 25 years now. With storylines such as Stacey suffering from Bi-Polar disease and been torn away from her first love by the Police to a Mental Instituition, and Lucas murdering his ex-wife in an abandoned shed, and making it look like suicide, were all brilliantily portrayed by the Cast. Another great year for the BBC and EastEnders.
Top Reality:
Keeping Up With the Kardashians
Starring: Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Kendall Kardashian, Kylie Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Bruce Jenner
Original Airdate: Sunday 8 March 2009
Channel: E!
Stand-Out Episode: Meet the Kardashians
My favourite, and probably the best TV family since the Osbournes, returned for a third season of their hilarious, yet dramatic Reality TV show. In my favourite episode, the Kardashians go on a Camping trip with Adrienne's family, and Khloe just made the episode what it is by asking Adrienne "Would you rather suck Rob's Balls, or his asshole?" - which made me literally fall in love with Khloe Kardashian and her hilarious attitude and behaviour. This season also showed shocking grounds with Bruce going under plastic surgery, Khloe getting tested for Cancer, and Kim splitting up with boyfriend, Reggie Bush.
Top Talk Show
Friday Night with Jonathan Ross
Starring: Jonathan Ross, 4 Poofs and a Piano
Original Airdate: Friday 23 January 2009
Channel: BBC One, BBC America
Stand-Out Episode: Hugh Jackman, Martin Clunes, and Lady GaGa
Friday Night with Jonathan Ross is probably the best Talk Show on TV, based on how many big names he gets on his show each week. This year he has managed to pull in stars such as Tom Cruise, Lily Allen, Tom Jones, Dev Patel, Mickey Rourke, Emily Blunt, U2, Annie Lennox, Vin Diesel, Pete Docherty, Whoopi Goldberg, Lady GaGa, Miley Cyrus, Sophie Dahl, Tom Hanks, Eminem, Ben Stiller, Martin Sheen, The Killers, Hugh Laurie, Jack Black, Matthew Fox, Sandra Bullock, Vivienne Westwood, Anjelica Houston, Denzel Washington, Quentin Tarantino, Eva Mendes, Jay-Z, Shakira, Barbara Streisand, Jeremy Piven, Vince Vaughan, Christopher Walken, Green Day, Serena Williams, Robbie Williams, Gerard Butler, Laurence Fishburne, Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Grant, and Rihanna. He will continue his reign through 2010 on the BBC. Long live the reign of Talk Show King, Wossy.
Oh man, FlashForward is among my favorite new shows this year. Glad to see it on the list! However, I never saw the Kardashians show and probably won't ever watch it. LOL. Can't wait for the next set.
