I don't understand the love for Spike and Buffy; he tried to rape her. To me, that should be case closed right there. Their relationship was born out of a really dark abuse-ridden place and I don't see why anyone would be interested in seeing it blossom. No matter what writers on the show did, it was always going to be a part of their relationship.
And to be honest, in a way, Spuffy kind of undercut the feminist message Buffy had been sending at that point. Not saying that it wasn't a story that shouldn't be told, because I think that artistically it was a good storyline - I just don't think that Spuffy should be held up as romantic. They were seriously problematic and their relationship was vile.
