That's the very problem. And Russell is contributing rather than working against it. He stated his personality and where it originated, which is acceptable, but then reinforced negative ideas about an entire segment of the LGBT* community.

I disagree. When people like Russell Tovey and Sam Smith distance themselves from their sexuality, they don't represent the community accurately. The public ends up liking a neutered, almost asexual gay person, which is just as off-base as the stereotypes of gay men held by society.
