That damn veto clause Looks like it's back to the High Court
Sinn Fein are only a few seats behind DUP, do you think they could become head party in the next election?
No way. At least, not the way our voting system works. In the last election, the DUP actually gained 2 seats (36 to 38), while SF only gained 1 (28 to 29), despite the DUP losing some votes and SF gaining some.
That said, because of the position I am in (from Northern Ireland living in England as a British citizen), I need the unionist parties (DUP and UUP) to hold big numbers of seats to stop the nationalist parties (SF and SDLP) from pushing for Northern Ireland to leave the UK and join the Republic of Ireland.
Really, it's lose-lose for me, and I'm happier just living in England and letting the DUP mess up everything in NI

This is not happening. Regardless of your political beliefs, this won't be happening at all. This election is not about the Union. Neither will the next one, or the one after that, or the one after that.
Northern Ireland is going ****ing nowhere unless the ENGLISH party in power gets enough votes in Westminster to pass a bill, which won't happen. Sinn Fein don't even sit in Westminster, so they can't even vote for a bill like that. Secondly, a bill like that is unlikely to make it through the House of Lords (never mind the House of Commons, which will NOT be happening within the foreseeable future) and by that time there another election could come along and the bill would be scrapped. It literally does not ****ing matter if Sinn Fein have seats or not, because they don't even take them in London.
It's actually a win-win for you (if you're living in England and aren't subjugated to the ******** Northern Irish people have to deal with due to their stupid politicians). The union is not going to be breaking any time soon. Even if it did, which it won't, Irish citizens have a de facto right of abode in the United Kingdom. Also, the UK and Ireland are both in the EU which has free movement of labour (meaning you can up & move where you want to work). ALSO, you're currently alive meaning that you were born before the fictional date of Ireland's reunification under Irish rule, meaning that you can even claim British subject status so that when you get nationalised citizenship in the UK you can't be deported. Irish citizens living in the UK can even vote in UK elections.
So STOP. This election is about social/economic policy and the state of the Union/Partition absolutely has nothing to do with it at all. Literally nothing.

You can be rude all you want, it doesn't detract from my concerns.
You have NO idea about the position I am in. You have no idea about my social, political or economic situation, and you have NO idea how it would affect me and my life.
I love how you make that massive speech evidently knowing nothing about the Northern Irish parties whatsoever. When you have grown up with them, you know them. And I know them. Didn't Scotland just have a referendum? Don't think that isn't something the nationalists would push for.
I'm not entirely sure where you think all your political knowledge is coming from either. I studied at Cambridge with the top law and politics students in the country and they see it as a possibility given the right circumstances.
So STOP, as you say. There are so many things I want to call you right now, but I'm going to leave it at that.
DO NOT comment on my situation if you are COMPLETELY unaware of it.

The Northern Ireland Assembly is a consociationalist government, unlike Scotland. That means a veto. The same veto that has been used by your messy country on not one, not two, not three, but FOUR separate occasions to dismiss a motion for equal marriage to be legalised & recognised there. Your Cambridge education should alert you to the blaringly obvious fact that nothing is getting past your devolved government that doesn't please both Unionists & Nationalists.
How about you educate me about how your mysterious social, political & economic situation would be affected by a life-changing... what? Nothing. Nothing is changing, you are being dramatic.
I also haven't called you a damn thing, so I don't know why you're getting so upset about this... why are you taking someone educating you so personally?

Tell me where the lie is in my post.
My situation is none of your business. I was not offended by facts. What offended me was the tone of your choice to write particular things in capitals. I got the message.
Please do not attempt to patronise me. My situation is none of your business, and certainly not something I am going to discuss online.
And don't think you have in any way educated me. If that was my intention, I have some far more intelligent doors to known on before I end up outside yours, boo.

Well, you brought it up...
It seems like you weren't able to find anything factually wrong with my post. It's good to see that you acknowledge that I am right, and that your anachronistic view of Northern Irish politics is due to some misunderstanding or over-simplification. I'm glad we agree x

We don't agree. You launched at my first post with a condescending response for no reason, and I merely stated that for personal reasons, one system of politics suits me better. I am under no obligation to discuss those with you when that wasn't the intention of my original post.
Nor am I going to argue politics on a music forum when I was only answering the question posed to me, which was 'do I think SF could catch up with the DUP in the next assembly election?' I did not come here to argue Northern Ireland politics.
So we don't agree. Try harder next time. I'm ending this now. I really can't be bothered with condescending remarks from some internet troll. Have a nice night sweetie.

You are mistaken in thinking that one system of politics suits you better though, as I informed you. It is the same state with either party in power. The only difference is that some of the more moderate parties like people to have more rights.
I actually highlighted the part that you were confused at to make it clearer for you. A mess that you think I'm a troll, especially when I just schooled you on the very thing you were crying about knowing so well and that I have no idea about...
Sorry that you find facts condescending.

I thought I ended this, and yet you're still talking?
Once again, I am not mistaken. You do not know my situation.
Please, stop thinking that hounding me makes you look right.
