Snap Out of It is prime example of why I love Arctic Monkeys: Their sarcastic, almost sassy lyrics and approach remind us that they don't take themselves, or the corporatized music industry, seriously.
Lyrically, the song is a graphic depiction of Tove Lo's hedonistic attempts to get over her ex. Great remix.
105. Nicole Scherzinger - Big Fat Lie
Nicole’s biographical interpretation and two fingers up to celebrity culture sums up the premise of her latest album. She sings: “If I’m living such a wonderful high why don’t I feel alive,” taking shots at her appearance and perception of herself. Great production.
104. Eminem - Guts Over Fear feat. Sia
The song, is a synth-heavy duet showcasing Sia's forceful voice singing a chorus about how she now feels emboldened in the face of adversity, as the rapper parses his various insecurities and his place in rap. "The crazy part, was as soon I stopped singing I gave a ****, haters started to appreciate my art," he says at one point. It could've become next Lose Yourself, but something is just missing.
Cute song. The song itself is the definition of a bonus track – essentially forgettable, generic and not good enough to qualify for the main album. Great video though!
102. Jessica Lange - Gods And Monsters
Jessica doesn't have a great singing voice, but it doesn't matter. She delivered one of the most iconic TV moments of 2014.
101. Lana Del Rey - Once Upon A Dream
There was never any doubt that Del Rey's reworking of 'Once Upon A Dream' was going to sound sinister, but its haunting melody and sumptuous orchestration coupled with her chillingly raspy tone manages to exceed expectations. "You'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream," she sings, the result turning a once romantic classic into something that sounds both painfully tragic and truly wicked.
