Uh, you obviously did not follow charts during that era. R&B was the dominating back in 2004, and I would say the transition to pop started around 2007-2008. "Hey Ya!", "Yeah!", "Burn", "Confessions", "Lean Back", "Goodies", "My Boo", "Drop It Like It's Hot", were all taking over the charts back then, specifically Usher. Again, the year before that, rap was dominating charts.
