Uh, you obviously did not follow charts during that era. R&B was the dominating back in 2004, and I would say the transition to pop started around 2007-2008. "Hey Ya!", "Yeah!", "Burn", "Confessions", "Lean Back", "Goodies", "My Boo", "Drop It Like It's Hot", were all taking over the charts back then, specifically Usher. Again, the year before that, rap was dominating charts.

I'm assuming you're a youngin' and didn't follow music during the 2004 time. I remember 2004 like it was yesterday because my sister still cannot believe that we both grew up listening to R&B and rap, and now I listen to strictly pop. 2004 Usher was not pop at all. Ashanti, Usher, Ja Rule, Sean Paul, Nelly, all those artists were the 'it' artists back in the day.
