No big deal. It's not like what Colton Haynes and others have done.

I think it's important to note she isn't from the US, she's from Germany. As far as i know they don't have any history like the US does

Nope. It's still not right or acceptable. You can dress up as a character without using blackface.

Let me play devil's advocate. What if it is a notable character, like this character from the Walking Dead, who you respect and are a fan of... and, this character's costume would only be complete/recognizable if you colored your skin tone to achieve their skin tone?

i don't think this is that bad at all...if not for mockery it isn't all that bad
still a touchy topic and it's best to stray away from it

So people can have white face paint but not black face?
that's even worse.

Well if you're playing Devil's advocate you're doing it horribly!! Whether you respect a character or not, if there are no discernible attributes, other than their skin color, that would be recognized right away then you have no business dressing up as them in costume. Either way, there are tons of ways to dress up as Michonne without having to do blackface and be recognizable to people. A headband, some dreads, a katana, & wearing earth tone colors, that simple!
Putting on black face and purposely flattening out your own nose to match A REAL PERSON'S features is ****ed up. Michonne isn't just her skin color either.

The whole blackface discussion is so tired. As long as you're not mocking the race, who cares?

Hmmm...this was done tastefully and looks beat. I still don't approve though.
I wouldn't dress up as a white character and paint my face white. I'd just wear the clothes.

I don't see the fuss in dressing up as another race.
Unless it's done for mocking.
I dressed out as a black gangster for Halloween once and no one thought it was racist.
But then again I live in Europe and things are different here.

I'd put money on her not trying to be offensive...
She's just making a costume of one of her favorite characters. It really wouldn't work if she was still white, right?
People just can't help but to be offended over the simplest ****.

There is absolutely nothing troublesome about the costume in a way that would or should offend anyone. I'm of mixed ethnicity (black, white, and mexican), and I think it takes us backward if we are truly offended by this.
This isn't true "blackface" by any stretch, and to state that white people should stop dressing up as black people entirely really doesn't solve anything. That perpetuates race segregation.
There's a difference between portraying a black character and portraying a black person in a negative or stereotypical light. This is neither.

It's 2014 and people are still perpetuating race segregation... We are all human beings, yet it seems many of U.S. are doing a lot to keep racism alive.
This is not blackface, nor is anyone approving of blackface in this thread. To turn something like this, which shows a woman who admires a character dressing up like her and wearing makeup to darken her skin, into a hateful act is not progressive.
Where is the disrespect in her actions? How is what she did insensitive? I don't believe it is. Clearly we all still aren't comfortable enough with our ethnicities to not pull the race card every chance we get.
Someone needs to step up and make a stand, otherwise we're going to remain stagnant and continue to dwell on our differences.

Exactly. Michonne isn't just her skin color, but that is part of her identity and image. The message you're perpetuating is that only black people should dress up as black characters and white people should stick to white or non-race specific costumes.
By that logic, only native americans should dress like Pocahontas, only middle eastern women should dress like Jasmine, only Asians should dress like Mulan... Or does this only apply to any non-black person portraying someone who is?
With absolutely no malice behind what this girl did, I fail to see the reasoning behind your support of race segregation. As someone of mixed race who doesn't quite fit into any one box, I see this as incredibly regressive.

shouldn't black people be flattered that she likes the character and wants to look like her? this is why they will never move forward.
