Tupac and Biggie Smalls are both hip-hop/music icons. Did they have 10 years of sustained mainstream success? I'll wait.

Thats a completly different situation, those people died early in their career, they dont live anymore. You cant compared that.
And btw Tupacs post death Until the End of Time album was released 10 years after he first came out, and the album was a sucess, #1 and 4 times Platinum.
So bye.

So you're saying if Gaga had died before ARTPOP was released, suddenly she'd be iconic? Are you on drugs?

Also, since this board just loves to compare the two so much, let me bring up the fact that Cyndi Lauper didn't see much mainstream success beyond her first era.
Are we gonna sit here and pretend that Cyndi Lauper isn't iconic for the sake of dragging Gaga, or...?

You can't be an icon just because you've been in the industry for 10 years, It's about what you did not how much time you've been in the industry

She definitely is an icon. I just hope she will have longevity, which I doubt.
But her talent is undeniable. She really is amazing.

No. I havent said that. What am saying is when they died they were still successful and was actually growing to be even bigger artists, globally too, they havent peaked yet as Gaga. Gagas career is going downhill, while those others career were going up up, before their death. Albums released after their death were also successful.
Gaga is a flop now, and if she would die, she would not be an icon suddenly.

It doesn't matter if she's a "flop" now. 10, 20, 30 years from now, people are not going to remember ARTPOP underperforming. They're not going to remember the DWUW video never getting released. They're not going to remember Marry The Night failing to reach the top 10 on the Hot 100.
What they WILL remember is Poker Face. And Bad Romance. And Born This Way. and the meat dress. and her hairbow and sunglasses.
Kind of like how members of the GP probably have no idea what Bionic is, but they certainly remember Genie In a Bottle, and Beautiful, and the music video for Dirrty.
You don't become iconic by meeting some sort of imaginary threshold for success. Things either are iconic or they aren't. And it just so happens that within the first 3 years of her career Gaga did a LOT of things that people are going to remember.

Touring the world right now and doing stadiums = her career is going downhill

She's on a freaking world tour doing and just did stadium shows last week in Japan and Korea ffs.
She had 2 tracks in BB100 top 10.
Her album debuted @1. Applause is 4x plat WW and DWUW is 2x plat WW without a video.
If she is a flop, idk what the other girls are.

Lady Gaga started flopping five years into her career, and right now the GP doesnt care for ha or use ha anymore. Shes done. She basically our generations Cindy Lauper, two successful albums, then complete flop afterwards, struggling to stay relevant.

That isn't true.
Xtina hasn't been able to maintain high success post-2006, yet Xtina is certainly a icon.
And I am fed up of people calling ARTPOP a flop. Having a 2 top 10's and having the 4th biggest opening week sales for a female is not a flop at all. Gaga flopped for Gaga's standard but not for half the pop girls ATRL stans for.
