Patti Labelle doesn't lipsync and her voice is almost unchanged. Bey sings mostly live and her voice has only gotten better. Alicia's just a terrible technical singer.

Because she focuses on her music. No matter her sales go down, she doesn't let her brand, celebrity, scandals, etc. overshadow her actual music, and she's more talented and has much more actual input into her records.
That is true. Beyonce arguable had the easier start given her Destiny's Child fame. Alicia had to start from the bottom, playing the piano in Hell's Kitchen.

I meant in terms of solo careers.
But now that you did bring up DC, Beyonce had a wealthy family who helped give her a record deal. Alicia had no one. Even then, her first album outsold the first DC album, or Beyonce's first solo album on the backing of the DC hype and fanbase.

How do I put this without offense...basically Alicia Keys can't even FIND the key in most songs she records. I love Ms Keys voice but she is not a "great" singer. She is however, a decent all around musician. Beyonce may lip and have a less than pleasing tone at times but she does sing well and knows how to stay on key live. Beyonce also knows her strengths and weaknesses. Alicia seems to not imo. She is more emotional while Beyonce can be a little sterile. It just depends on what you're looking for tbh.

you are informed enough. what makes GP thinks that is that Beyoncé biggest hits doesn't focus on vocals.
It reminds me of my friend last time who came across "Listen" via a talent show he was watching. he basically thought like a classic GP person but when he heard Beyoncé sing "Listen" with Alexandra Burke he told me "but why doesn't she do that more often?". because she dances a lot and her marriage is very public and there's more and more controversy about her, people think she's trying to overshadow her lack of raw talent. but no, she's just a multitalent person. everything she does, she does it better than most of her peers, Alicia included.
she just has to work on her acting a little bit. that's the only thing Matthew did nothing for.
Beyoncé is beyond a musician. She's also an entertainer, businesswoman and a brand.
Entertainers get respect and criticism. Musicians get either respect or get ignored.

The way Beyoncé knows her voice and knows the technicality behind vocalising is beyond amazing. I don't think you guys realise as to how far Beyoncé is familiar with vocal pedagogy or how complicated this subject is. This is why I find Beyoncé vocally and as a musician underrated.

voice is an instrument too. maybe Alicia can elaborate better texts. but Beyoncé talent surpass AK's.
