Wow I'm being completely honest when I say this is the BEST music they've ever recorded. It's a great cross between their old sound and like Ellie Goulding/Lorde esque music. Hothouse is seriously so mediocre compared to the whole album.
I feel so sorry for them. I loved Hothouse but I never had any idea of how successful it was for them, but if it did "underperform" and resulted in another album being scrapped then.... . All that effort for nothing.
Happy that we atleast get to listen to it, though.
The purpose of the Hothouse album was to shop around for labels and if they didn't get one they'd release it on their own. Their prospective label asked them to pursue the sound of Boy's live version so that's why it is not leaking.
Also this didn't leak ten days ago. They were just uploaded to private on soundcloud then. The whole album leaked in cdq today with the songs being unprivated every couple days up until today.
Anyways this is a flawless record and whatever they put out with a label is bound to be amazing since they are capable of crafting this on their own.
Rumor has it the producer who produced this record was bitter he got put on the shelf and he leaked it.
