And to answer the OP, no, she didn't change anything. Yeah the hype was great and such a smart move from her team to hide that she can't even pull off lead single release, I mean, even with hype and a Grammy performance, did Drunk in Love outsold an interlude Birthday Cake yet?

She was the Only Super Star who could have took that risk and have good results with it... Tell me one other Pop star who can do like her? Apparently nobody can play this game and win so big like she has!!!

She Changed the Game? Yes go read the dozens of articls of Specialists on Music Marketing and Marketing who gives her credits of taking the first step in innovating ways into saving the music industry... For other artists who did it before.. No one is in her same Category ... and no one has sold as much as she did...

For the singles that are not selling "enough" now and the album that is selling way less than when it came out.. Did you know she isn't making any promo?

I think the examples of Skrillex and Kid Cudi will prevent more from trying to copy her. both did surprise release and debuted okay, but fell off the face of the earth the next week. Over time, I think we'll see everyone who wanted to do a surprise release see the flaws in the approach.

For example, Kid Cudi debuted at 87k, sold 8k in its second week, and has sold a negligible amount since.

Coldplay did not pull a Beyonce. We were told ahead of time that stuff was coming.

Anyways, it didn't "change" the game. It was a big deal and inspired a few others to follow a similar release but I doubt it's something that will continue to be done much from here on out. Not her fault though that others don't have the starpower to pull it off.
