They should be an achievement but not an extraordinary achievement. Seriously, how many albums released this year are going to achieve the platinum certification ? 2 or 3 ? That's just ridiculous. When are you people who advocate a status quo going to acknowledge a change in certification might be a good idea ? When no one sells that amount ?

No. It would account for the change in the market. A platinum album today is probably worth about a 2.5-3x platinum album around 15 years ago. By adapting certification levels to the market, you get a better overall picture. Most countries did it.

If anything, it's the market that needs to change. People were willing to purchase their music before. Artists need to find new, creative ways to release music so that the GP will be interested again.

Yes, plus I don't think the US Music Industry wants to cave in. They probably feel like they are "degrading" themselves and really showing publicly what we all know about the music industry becoming a quick sinking ship. They won't do it anytime soon.

It's too bad there is no way that illegal album downloads could be counted. It would be interested how much of our faves PROBABLY would have potentially sold if illegal downloading wasn't as easy as it is now.
