thanks for all the comments! I really appreciate it.
so lets finally begin the top 40 albums list. this year instead of doing it 10 at a time, i'll slow it down to 5.
Part 1
40.Interpol - Our Love To Admire
Interpol's first major label album is not the sell out move that it sometimes is for artists. they stick pretty much to the same sound that has gotten them this far, while also experimenting slightly with keyboards and other new elements. the hooks on this album are massive. songs like "No I In Threesome", "Mammoth", and "The Heinrich Maneuver" are Classic Interpol. while Interpol may not be a very interesting band live, you can't reject that all three of their studio albums have been greatness.
Best Songs:
1.No I In Threesome
2.Mammoth
3.The Heinrich Maneuver
39.Fall Out Boy - Infinity On High
I can't deny this album. I know some people say that they like old Fall Out Boy better, but that's crazy talk imo. they are at their very best with Infinity On High. getting in huge hooks, great songwriting, and Patrick Stump singing his ass off. it's really one of those albums where if you only listen to one song at a time, you will have that one song stuck in your head all day. just solid from beginning to end. i'm looking forward to hearing what they put out next. btw, they still need to release (After) Life Of The Party ASAP.
Best Songs:
1.The Take Over, The Break's Over
2.The (After) Life Of The Party
3.The Carpal Tunnel Of Love
38.The Field - From Here We Go Sublime
this was my chill out album of the year. it's a great album to just put on and relax to. The Field aka Axel WIllner is a very talented artist. the way he uses his sample sources and just loops them constantly is amazing. at the end of all the songs he lets the sample go to reveal what the sample is, and it's really quite a blast. it's almost like a gameshow where you are trying to guess what the sample is, and you have until the end of the song to guess before it reveals itself. the majority of the times when I played the album came around early in the year when there was still snow on the ground, and it really works quite well in the winter climate. songs like my favorite "Sun and Ice" are just great to listen to outside when it's at that point of where there is a sun shining with snow still on the ground. If you like any electronic music at all, hell if you just like interesting and new music, you need to give this a listen.
Best Songs:
1.Sun And Ice
2.The Deal
3.Everyday
37.Pharoahe Monch - Desire
believe it or not, but this is Monch's second album. his first since 1999's Internal Affairs which isn't even in production anymore cause the Godzilla sample from "Simon Says" wasn't cleared. it's been a very long wait to see what Monch had up next, but it's definitely worth it. Monch continues to be one of the most technical MC's around. for Desire Monch got himself a great production lineup like The Alchemist, Mr. Porter, LV & Sean C of the Hitmen, and Black Milk who is one of the most talented young producers out there today. Monch again spits fire throughout the entire album, and does some stuff that MC's wouldn't even think of doing. like the 9 minute "The Trilogy" which is split into three different acts is really some of the best storytelling you'll hear all year. If you are sick of what's on the radio, and for some reason have yet to hear of Monch then please check him and this album out.
Best Songs:
1.Desire feat. Showtyme
2.The Trilogy (Act 1 with Mr. Porter, Act 2 with Dwele, Act 3 with Tone)
3.Push feat. Showtyme, Mela Machinko & Tower Of Power
36.Freeway - Free At Last
again another sophomore hip-hop album that took a long time to come out. not as long as Monch's but Freeway hasn't had an album out since 2003's Philadelphia Freeway which spawned what is (imo) one of the best hip-hop singles of this century so far in "What We Do". Free At Last is just as great as his debut even without Just Blaze or Kanye contributing to it like they did on the debut. on the best song on the album "When They Remember", Bink gets time to shine with his great sample of "The Way We Were" by Gladys Knight. Bink was the
other new producer on The Blueprint, and while he didn't get to the heights of fame that Kanye West and Just Blaze have gotten to, he shows on the track that he can compete with them. the only real misstep on the album is "Take It To The Top" the 50 Cent assisted loverman song that just falls on it's face. minus "Take It To The Top", Freeway sounds completely at home on Free At Last and if he keeps making albums like this then he could quietly end up to be one of the most consistent rappers out. here's hoping he does.
Best Songs:
1.When They Remember
2.It's Over
3.Still Got Love
so there we are. Part 1 is in the can. I should post something tomorrow. not sure if it'll be Part 2 or a sidelist, but there should be something.
