It was always going to happen, it was just a matter of time. Can't say I'm surprised or disappointed, though. Streaming is a big factor in determining the popularity of a song.

You won't see many people complaining once their fave suddenly gets more UK #1's than they previously would have before the rule.

Why does it diminish the amount of respect for the chart?

The whole point of the overall chart is to show the most popular songs in a given country, NOT necessarily the biggest sellers. To exclude such a huge avenue of music consumption, especially when it is easily and reliably measured, would be stupid.

Gotta adapt and get with the times or risk becoming irrelevant.

I don't understand why anyone would think adding on demand songs is a bad thing? It directly reflects what a person wants to listen to.. I think it's second to sales in determining the popularity of a song.

Is often the case that a song won't be available on Spotify whilst it's still on pre-order. The song only comes on Spotify when it's released onto the charts, so in effect the suppressed pre-order won't be affected. Britney her Work Bitch wig is safe.
