It's a grower, but better than that "Show Me What You Got" ****. I think I'm one of the only people on Earth who hasn't heard Reasonable Doubt ever.

Jay-Z - American Gangster more info/speculation
so, American Gangster is sounding better and better with every new piece of information.
from Miss Info:
Quote:
so far what I’ve found out is that its totally a concept album, its not a mainstream album, there are very few radio friendly songs…its Hov spitting about drugs, selling drugs, dirty money, broken families and drugs…There are no cliché collabos with british rockers. There are no duets with B…so far. Bottom line, this sounds like my hip hop wet dream come true. We’ll see.
|
that sounds absolutely fantastic. It seems like Jay must of saw all the huge critical acclaim that Hell Hath No Fury got ( 89% on Metacritic), and was dying to go back to his roots and make an album like that again.
However, if he did this album out of the blue people would of called him a poser. saying how could you be talking about selling coke when you are hanging out with Bill Gates? so he saw American Gangster and it gave him the perfect excuse to make his classic street/drugs album. he could just call it a Concept album, and then no one would question him.
but that's just how I see it.

hopefully in the studio trying to make a good album.
it reminds me that Q4 for hip-hop is absolutely insane. you got Hova, Wu-Tang, Little Brother, Nas (hopefully), Lupe, and others that I am forgetting.
it's a great time to be a hip-hop head.

Jay-Z- Roc Boyz (brand new single from American Gangster)
so yeah. Blue Magic was a great single wasn't it? I know some folks didn't like it, but if they don't like this then they didn't like Jay-Z to begin with.

produced by Puffy's The Hitmen production group.
American Gangster out November 6th. this is shaping up to be the hip-hop album of the year.

I tore you out the game
Bullet wounds will stop your bafoonery
Thanks to the pastor rapping at your eulogy
To lil kim and them
You know the women friend

Yeah thanks to all the hustlers
But most important to you the customer

The Roc Boys in the building tonight
Oh what a feeling I’m feeling life
You ain’t even gotta bring ya paper out
We the dope boys of the year
Drinks is on the house
The roc boys is in the building tonight
Look at how I’m chillin
I’m killing this ice
You aint even gotta bring
Ya purses out
We the dope boys of the year
Drinks is on the house
Let ya hair down baby
I just hit a score
Pick any place on the planet
Pick a shore
Take what the Forbes figured then figure more
Cuz they forgot to account what I did with the raw
Pick a timeless
Pick apart some stores
Pick a weekend for freaking for figure fours
I figure frauds never hit a lick before
So they don’t know the feeling
When them things get across
Put ya hand out the window
Feel the force feel the porche
Hit the frost
Ice cold
Jewels got no flaws
Drop got no top
You on the top floor
Pink rose, think OJ
I get away with murder
When I sling ye
Heron got less steps than Britney
That means it ain’t stepped on dig me
Chorus
Red Porsches, rare portraits
Rare guns if you dare come near the fortress
This apple sauce is from
The apple orchid
This kind of talk is only reserved
For the bosses
Which means I get it from the ground
Which means you get it when I’m around
Rich *****s, black bar mitzvahs
Mazel Tov, it’s a celebrations bitches
L’Chaim, I wish for you a 100
Years of success but it’s my time
Cheers toast to the crime

A decent follow up congrats to Jigga that's all I got to say but Ben, hip hop album of the year? I know the dude is one of the best MCs of all time but I'm sorry I don't think anything could top Graduation this year as far as being the best hip hop album.

True true...when I think of the two, Im thinking hip hop lines have been blurred with pop in some cases and I think one reason why KanYes album is so amazing is its the perfect blend of the two. Jays album is clearly RAP! Therefore the two can rein supreme in seperate but equal categories!!

i'm not giving him a free pass just based on his legacy. c'mon, i'm not that kind of person.
reason why I said it was shaping up to be best hip-hop album of the year is because this is Jay's return to form to straight up, gritty hip-hop. based on these two songs, and everything i've read on it (more soulful than The Blueprint, Reasonable Doubt-era lyrical content, the incredibly stacked production team, etc). Jay is making American Gangster for the hip-hop heads like myself, not making it for the crowd that only like him on Beyonce singles.
Graduation is amazing, don't get me wrong, but yerboylc3 kinda touched on the fact that Graduation isn't straight up hip-hop. you don't listen to Kanye's albums because you think he's a great rapper (he's getting better, but he still has some really clunky lines). you listen to his albums because Kanye knows how to make a great overall album. from the concept of the album to the production etc.
so, I dunno. i'm kinda confusing myself, but I just meant that American Gangster could be the best hip-hop album of the year in the technical sense.

Jay-Z, Puffy, and The Hitmen on "Roc Boys"
Quote:
“Roc Boys”
Produced by: Sean “Puffy” Combs and The Hitmen (LV, Sean C, D-Dot, and Mario Winans)
Disclaimer:
As of right now the new improved Puffy and company have 5 tracks slated on American Gangster. “Pray,” “No Hook,” “Party Life,” “Sweet,” and the recently leaked “Roc Boys.”
Jay-Z:
“Roc Boys” is the hustler at his height. It’s a celebration. “First of all, I want to thank my connect the most important person, with all due respect.”
Like, how you put him so high that you had to tell God, chill out, right? When I heard the horns, the first thing I said was that cause that’s what I do when I listen to music. I’m just giving all my secrets out, that’s what I’m supposed to do, right? Feed it back into the game and hopefully people will pick up on the things.
I represent hip-hop first and foremost. Like, when I go into a Biggie zone or Em zone or anybody else I mean, that’s what it’s about. I mean, I can rap. I’m not doing that ‘cause I’m at a lost for ****in’ words. I’ve said a lot of words in my career. I got my words. I used vehemently in a rhyme, you know. I got a lot of words. I got a vast vocabulary. But when I heard the record, I was like, this **** sounds like a celebration, right. So that’s what it was.
So I got to mic, and the winner is: Hov. First off all, I want to thank my connect—with all due respect [Hov looks to the sky]. Thanks to the duffle bag. Nobody thanks the duffle bag. The brown paper bag. The Nike shoe box. That’s all part of your ****. You thank ‘em. Thank ‘em. Whoever made the stash… The guy who made the stash spot before the cops had the **** that popped everything open was a genius.
They should make a movie about him. They make movies about drug dealers, but what about the guy who made the stash spot. They did in a movie though. They gave it up to the guy who built the extra bottom on the boat in Cocaine Cowboys. They gave him a little look. We got to do that more. Like the drug dealer awards. But like they do in the Grammy’s, all the technical awards. Like all that ****. That’s hot!
Sean “Puffy” Combs:
The “Roc Boys” is crazy. It’s one of them urgent tracks. We all love the tracks that Hov does that are urgent. That really as soon as the needle hits it it just takes you on a journey. As soon as the needle hits it, it just feels like you just driving non-stop. The way these horns is playing it’s just… It’s also a different sounding joint for Jay. But it’s not too much of a departure where you can’t recognize the flavor it.
LV:
That was the first joint we did after we heard the first two of our songs [Jay recorded]. So me and Sean C. were excited. After we heard “No Hook” and “Sweet.” We was like, Oh, ****! We got mad amped and that’s how we came up “Roc Boys.” Coincidentally, Jay heard it and was on the same vibe like it was a celebration. That was one we made specifically for him. We wanted it to be that joint… You ever hear a joint on another *****’s album like, Damn I wish did that beat?
Sean C:
That was something we didn’t have already. We did that for Jay. That was during that time after “Sweet” and “No Hook.” We was like we got to get a bunch of records. We went shopping and just started chopping more stuff up and that was one of the joints that came out of that. I’m excited to hear what people are gonna say about it. It don’t sound like any records that are out right now so I’m psyched to hear what people are gonna say about that ****.

You know your not the only one that says that KRS One also said that then again he says he likes 50 Cent better
Also I must add I can safely say that American Gangster already sounds better than Kingdom Come so far in fact way better. But as far as Reasonable Doubt goes I don't think he'll ever have another better album than Reasonable Doubt was.
P.S. Has anybody noticed how Kanye has kind of sounded like Jay in some of the songs on Graduation I think he gets his flow from Jay a little bit
