I think Irreplaceable was a better song from a critical point of view, but Umbrella was a summer smash and those tend to define the year. Say It Right is a phenom that cant be ignored, but not quite the critical success of Irreplaceable or the commercial success of Irreplaceable in the US...this whole conversation depends on whether you are only considering sales, then SIR wins, or if its matter of critical response, Irreplaceable wins...but you cant discredit any of the three...all three great songs!

Maybe SIR is the most successful, but Umbrella was the most shocking, the most suprising... ist was something new, something unpredictable (a girls sings about umbrellas? )
the video was cool (won the VOTY award at VMA's), it wasn't boring, rihanna was covered with silver...

It was a SMASH everywhere.. #1 USA, UK, Oz, Germany, many countries in Europe... it dominated the world chart... she broke records!

I don't think another song can repeat that success! So the third time a woman has the song of the year!
