Doing 110 runs, grunts prerecords doesn't necessarily make a good performance. Brandy's voice comes naturally, she doesn't have the desperate need to make everything extravagant and loud. Which takes away from the raw sentiment to the song. Which is why an artist like Brandy suits the song better.
