I've really not had much issue with the apps on Windows Phone 8. We now have an officially sanctioned (and fully featured, including video) Instagram app, a Vine app, Snapchat app, etc.

I agree with you partly. Although WP7 differs from WP8 in numerous ways, they're not in different ball fields. They both still have the basic components of the Windows Phone OS, like Live Tiles, Bing Search, etc. I'm personally ready for a change.
And about the apps: Although there may be Instagram, Vine, and Snapchat apps, none of them are official. And that says a lot about Windows Phone. Developers are not investing as much in Windows Phone as they are in other OS's, and for someone like me, who likes to have all of the "hot" apps before they've faded, that's not good for me. We still lag behind iOS and Android in so many different ways.
