This is a reason why I propose that ATRL/PopFusion set (or raise) the age in order to get into this site to be 16. BTW if I and Adrian are "whack ass people", then who released you from your cage and helped you out of the straight jacket? HmM?
Now I just hate Chemicals React as I do with Clay Aicken, BUT I find some appeal to Rush and No One. And I, along w/others outside of ATRL, will never forgive these two artists for nearly obliterating two oldie hits. (Walking on Sunshine/Do you believe in Magic)

Normally I do agree with wut you say Travis, but there are a couple of invalid points in this post. "Chemicals React" doesn't seem to be anything different from their other songs, so I don't see reason in like one and not the other. As for their covers...it isn't just them, but literally, everyone hates covers. I think everything they do is at least decent.

Not everybody hates covers; otherwise American Idol wouldn't be going into its 6th Season and Joss Stone wouldn't have gotten her start.
I'm just a full on hater of their new master-garbàgé; that's all. !

Really? How?
They do it every week on the show, and Millions of people vote for contestants who cover songs. With that LITERALLY not everybody hates covers. I don't hate Kelly Clarkson for covering "RESPECT" or Chris Daughtry for covering Hemmorhage or Dead or Alive. Then we have the American Idol CD which basically has contestants COVERING songs done by other artists Old and Contemporary.

I'll let it go as soon as they're off the TRL countdown. This is my campaign against them which they deserve imo.

Once again to clarify my stand:
I hate Chemicals React as the song, NOT the girls themselves. (if I did state I hated Aly and AJ in some other post, I'm sorry.)

They have no choice when covering songs. No matter wut they choose, they are ALWAYS going to cover a song. That is the difference. Besides, they usually don't ever even cover songs on their albums, let alone their singles. Any artist that releases a cover is usually looked down upon, as they are ALWAYS going to be compared to the original, which is usually extremely <333ed. Example: VERY few really enjoyed Jessica Simpson's rendition of "Take My Breath Away" I guarantee you that everyone chooses the original of her version. Come on Travis...you can do better than this.

No, I'm just fine. I know how American Idol operates and the perception of an audience when they hear an artist's cover . I'm approaching this line you said:

If everyone hated covers, American Idol wouldn't have the success its obtained nor would Joss Stone as I mentioned earlier, be as successful as she is. (Her first single was a cover.) As for Aly and AJ, they just degraded both of those classics in my opinion.
That's all.

I was speaking of course of albums and singles and I think you know that...this has nothing to do with the covers used as performances on American Idol. We are speaking of course, or at least comparing it to the "Walking On Sunshine/Do You Believe In Magic?" available on the album/single format. Also, for future clarification, we are speaking of enormously popular covers, such as the "Take My Breath Away" I exemplified earlier, not the "Angels" (by Jessica Simpson) that nobody knew was a cover.

I know you were speaking of LPs and singles. OK, even without AI performances, I can still use American Idol as an example. The show's yearly records of the entire top 10/12 usually consist of nothing but covers, and happen to at least be certified Gold each time. This past year Daughtry (w/Dead or Alive) and Hicks(Not with Do I make you proud , but Taking to the streets) managed to chart on one of the Billboard charts w/ their singles and people knew that both of them were covers, and they still bought+downloaded the tracks. And BTW, more than "very few" people liked "Take My Breath Away" here in the US, otherwise it wouldn't have peaked at #20 on the BB100 chart, and #1 on the BB Hot 100 Singles Sales chart. (Here's the evidance to show this.)

I knew you were going to use that example the second I added it, but American Idol's sales are hardly ever taken seriously and to be completely honest, by just merely reading the titles of the songs mentioned for Taylor Hicks and company, I didn't know they were covers, unless of course you mentioned American Idol next it. Could you name the original singer of "Taking It To The Streets" without looking it up? As for Jessica Simpson, the general public doesn't represent for much. Remember, this same public sent "Laffy Taffy" to #1. Let's just look at it this way. If we created a poll between the Top Gun version of "Take My Breath Away" vs. Jessica Simpson's...who do you think would win? I am merely stating that the cover is never preferred, unless the original was never heard of to begin with. BTW, the American Idol records are only certified gold BECAUSE it has the "American Idol" logo on it. The CD could contain all original songs and still sell more or less the same amount.

Actually I remember Ryan Seacrest mentioning that "Taking it to the streets" was done by -I think- Michael McDonaldson(that might be his name...I just remembered the performance crtique during the show, they refferenced Paula+Hicks to the video Michael did with Courtney ~ Who was Monica on Friends.)
You didn't know that some of the songs (of the people from AI) that I mentioned were covers? Have you not been watching the show? About 97%+ of the performances done by the contestants are covers on that show, which the selected few performances are later included into their yearly group CDs.
Excuse me? The general public doesn't matter? I don't think so. They (who are people like you and I) are the ones, or I should say millions, who play a role in determining an artist's fate. They are the people responsible for buying Aly and Aj's CD, which sadly gives the green light for those 2 girls to continue to make more music like this ugly Chemicals React song I hate w/ a passion. Just because they sent Laffy Taffy to #1, doesn't mean collectively that they are all unable to decide between a cover to the original, and do not matter. Besides not all of the general public liked Laffy Taffy, they just wound up with the largest numbers by the end of the week. If they like it, they buy it, which means the "it" is preffered. Now maybe the people you hang around with may prefer original over Jessica Simpson's cover, but that doesn't speak for everyone. People do prefer the covers with the same passion as those with the taste for the originals. But you are right, people who are unaware of the song they're listening to is a cover, such as Jessica's TMBA, have the tendency of preferring that to the original. ~ But it doesn't happen all the time, its all in the matter of knowledge.

I guarantee that at least an overwhelming 75% will go with the original over a cover. As for the comment on the general public, I was just trying to make the notion that if the general public had the best taste, than "Laffy Taffy" should be nominated for a Grammy. Of course the majority of the American Idol songs are covers, but hardly anybody buys those CDs. The same people buy them every year, which explains why the consistently sell 500K (no more, no less). Think about it Travis, "Into The Rush" has outsold those American Idol compilation CDs. I believe they are close to 700K now?
Anyways, I am going to have to go to bed soon, so I won't be able to respond much more till tomorrow Travis, so I am going to reiterate the most important points that I was trying to get across, so that we can at least get on the same terms:
01.Original songs are ALMOST ALWAYS preferred to the cover.
02.American Idol is not a good comparison at all to anything in the music industry...excluding Kelly Clarkson, who should no longer be associated with American Idol anyways.
03.The general public doesn't always go for quality (greatest, most prime example EVER): "High School Musical" is the most successful projects and best selling album this year. = X
04.Aly & AJ are not that bad...not the best...but not terrible. In fact, they are superior to other counterparts that have hailed from the Disney Channel (Hilary Duff)
Which leaves me with one question. (Arith and Will, this if for you as well):
Do you only HATE this song because of the way Mike presented it? I doubt you really would have loathed the song if not for Mike *Will just jumped on the bandwagon is all.
Anyways, Enjoyed It Travis -intelligent conversation that is-.

75%? really? I wish I knew an adequete way of testing that.
Less than 5% of the general public include the Grammy Voting academy. (which mostly consists of certain people within the music industry - artists/producers/label executives/etc.) The rest are consumers such as you and I.
A half of a million consumers (At most or near) is "Hardley anybody?" OK, don't pay attention to them. *Sarcasm * And no, this line(*) isn't true as seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America...can_Love_Songs
The numbers are not consistant. (Season2 had sales of 300K+, while season4 had 500K+) Therefore its not the same people.
BTW: (Yes I looked at their wiki page) Into the rush hasn't even neared 700K yet.

---Nope, we shouldn't pay attention to them, that industry has just sold millions(about over 30 million WW last I heard) of CDs. * more sarcasm* But in this argument, it served to prove my point about covers, and if people hated covers of famous songs, AI wouldn't be successful as it is today,(the following is an addditional point) nor would it be an asset to the overall music sales which have been said to be lackluster compared to past years.

I don't know about the superiority issue, nor do I really care too much at this point. But Chemicals React = Yes, that is still terrible.

Do I ever let a couple members of an internet forum be the determining factor of my music preferances? NO! Even if that member is a Mike? That wouldn't be a no with the term "hell" added in the front of the word. Idiot Mike is not a contributer to why I hate this song. (But he is part of a reason why I hate the CR music video more than ever now.) This song is an overrated suckage piece of garbage because of my own personal views/preferances ~ which expand beyond what is typed in ATRL.
If I let one annoying person push my decisions around within my preferances of music, I'd hate all music kind completely, nor would I be a member of this forum.
