I don't like that they are just accepting terrible sales. There need to be ways to optimize today's world to increase album sales because gold = platinum is bull ****.
what kind of low expectations? I think this is just to make the artists who don't sell that well to feel better. If sales are important, then I would want artists to strive and promote for that platinum.

+1. They just can't use the same formula for selling albums. Times are changing. Record companies jobs are to find ways to make people buy albums, and so far they haven't found an innovative way to do so, because really, record executives are stupid
I kinda agree with you all. Part of me thinks RCA is just content with selling 500,000 units or less with an album and anything above that is a bonus. I'm not entirely sure if they're striving to craft albums that are appealing to a broader market. Then again.... a lot of their artists are urban acts and urban sales are dire for all labels.
No, they should not change rankings. If Adele can still sell millions of albums, it proves that people are still willing to BUY albums. Record companies need to realize they can't use the same damn formula to release an album and they need to realize they have to step up their game/promo.
Definitely this! Do not reward record labels for their laziness and cheap tactics. Make them work on a higher quality product if they want a more prestigious result.
The population is ever growing. If anything, standards should be raised, not lowered.
Adele is one artists out of HUNDREDS, and the first artist to go diamond in years.
Adele is also signed to what used to be a tiny record label, my point was that it's obviously possible even if it is rare. And I think labels should work harder to promote and ensure long term success for albums, if that still doesn't work then the certifications should be changed.

It's true what he's saying. I think a lot of the over dramatic reactions happening with lower debuts would make less sense if people really realized how much things had changed and just acknowledged it.
Another thing girls need to realize is that 10 years ago a platinum album didn't mean much. It almost made you a flop. NOW a Platinum album is somewhat prestigious cause no more than 20 artists a year are doing it. It sounds like a downgrade now cause Platinum is almost on a pedestal but it really wasn't before. Gold for 250k does seem a little low though.
They said that because they've always been a horrible label.
But, my fave's signed to them, so atleast I know no matter how much he sales, he's safe, because most of their artists sell horribly, and they're okay with that
