#23: "...But It Looks Like an Album"
#23 - Warrior (Ke$ha)
I said to myself I wasn’t going to include albums that came out in December, but dammit if I did not expect an album like this from Ke$ha. I mean, Ke$ha’s still Ke$ha, but seriously... “Dirty Love”? “Wonderland”? “Love Into the Light”? If you told me Ke$ha was going to make songs like this the year she came out, I would’ve called you “mentally unstable”. While I still get the same old-same old from her, you get a new side I never thought would come from her. And her experimentation with rock makes it clear that Ke$ha is here to stay for the long run; just knowing that Ke$ha is willing to expand her horizons beyond electro-pop makes me believe that she could be a force to be reckoned with.

“...But It Looks Like an Official Album.”
Okay, I’mma let you know right now; Azealia Banks’ FANTASEA did not make the cut. It’s not that I didn’t like it. It’s not that I didn’t think it was good, if not better, than some of the choices I put on this list. When you break it down, it will be nothing more than a mix tape. Now, while that sounds selfish and shallow, I’m only giving this the benefit of the doubt. Sure, I would like to put this album with the rest, but being a mix tape allows her to say more than an official, label-smothered album could. With that said, do I think FANTASEA could’ve been a contender for my top twenty-three? The answer is no. While there were a few songs on here that I actually enjoyed listening to, it’s not enough to carry the album for me. I need more than three songs to keep me occupied (and I will delve more into that in an upcoming article). A top three doesn’t make the album, but it does make the artist. While I won’t be including Azealia Banks on this list or on any of the other lists, I will be glad to keep her posted for next year. If she can wow me like she did on “212” and “LUXURY”, she can definitely be on next year’s list. But, for now, sorry. And I’m wholeheartedly prepared for any meltdowns that may occur. (BTW, this is one of my shorter articles, promise the next ones will be longer.)
