Well both Hard Candy AND MDNA are trend following albums but it's nearly impossible to keep setting trends your whole career. Madonna did with ROL and Music (and to a certain degree, COADF) but besides those musical accomplishments its hard to see where she's influenced MUSIC in general so I think she's overrated in that department. Cultural-wise tho, she's a bad bitch and that's why she's as highly rated as she is now, because her cultural impact was EXTREMELY huge

It's a double-standard, but it exists. The same way many on here consider Taylor to be ****ty, but you guys never say that about many of the male entertainers known to prowl. Instead they have, "good ****"

Female singers are criticized all the time for being nude, semi-nude in their musical efforts. That's why none of the pop girls get the respect they deserve outside of the internet and gay community. Madonna is pop music as we know it. You can not name a single female star who we would have today without Madonna, and you can not deny her legacy of countless hits. She successfully pushed boundaries further than everyone else, and she became the framework for the female pop star. Even her flops are legendary (Erotica).

Not by any chance is Madonna overrated, you may not enjoy her music, but you can't deny what she has done for females, and Pop music in the industry. Add her ability to keep innovating her self, recreating her self, and breaking norms that were so taboo during her time. The legacy she has left will never be matched by any female or male artist for that fact.

Sometimes people overrate her but as far as female pop singers go Madonna has achieved the most and IS the Queen of pop. That's not even up for debate. Her impact on pop culture from her fashion statements to her performances and of course the music itself is on another level. She's done a lot for females in the industry fighting double standards and going that extra mile. She's re-invented herself countless times and is one of the most controversial artist's ever. I agree some fans overrate her and that MJ and The Beatles have achieved more but Madonna's impact is still incredible.
