Madonna's "Confessions on a Dance Floor" debuts at No. 1.
Madonna notched another No. 1 album in Canada, but unlike her last effort, the sales figures were very impressive.
Her 14th disc "Confessions on a Dance Floor" debuted at the top of the charts on sales of 74,000, easily surpassing the numbers of 2003's "American Life", which sold 18,000 copies in its first week.
Madonna's previous albums, 2000's "Music" and 1998's "Ray Of Light," also debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 50,300 and 59,900 respectively.
"Confessions on a Dance Floor" surpassed Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons" (60,000) as the second best debut this year. Coldplay's "X&Y" continues to be the 2005 champion with first-week sales of 105,000.
Elsewhere in the top 10, Il Divo's "Ancora" fell to No. 2 on sales of 28,000, while Green Day's first live CD/DVD "Bullet in a Bible," taken from two performances in England on June 18-19, checked in at No. 3.
The seasonal collection "MuchDance 2006" climbed two positions to No. 4, Diana Krall's "Christmas Songs" remained at No. 5, the soundtrack to the 50 Cent film "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" fell four spots to No. 6, and Nickelback sank from No. 4 to No. 7.
The Black Eyed Peas' "Monkey Business" slipped one notch to No. 8, the soundtrack to the popular Quebec reality show "Star Academie 2005" dropped six places to No. 9, and Arianne Moffatt's "Coeur Dans La Tete" premiered at No. 10.
Other notable debuts included Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" at No. 20, the compilation "Country Hits 2" at No. 22, the "Walk the Line OST" at No. 41, Big & Rich's "Comin' to Your City" at No. 42, and Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run: 30th Anniversary" at No. 44.
