I like it, and I especially like the second half, but...it doesn't feel like a first single. "Survival" felt like a first single, no matter how much it divided people. This feels more like a third single. I don't see this being as successful as I want it to be. Hopefully I'll be wrong about that feeling.

I know this. I'm saying that "Survival" would have fit the first single mold more than "Madness", given how uptempo the song is.

In essence, it feels more like a song that should have been released as the third single, kind of like how "Starlight" was the third single from BHAR and "Undisclosed Desires" was the "third" single in the US from Resistance. It fits that mold more than as a first single release, which has traditionally been uptempo tracks like "Time Is Running Out", "Plug In Baby", "Uprising", and "Supermassive Black Hole". Then again, Muse has already prided themselves on doing things differently than the norm...even if it means moving away from their own tradition of releasing uptempo songs as first singles.

I'm sure I'll get over this feeling soon enough. I feel like I'm already getting over it.

I prefer "Madness", but "Survival" is easily the worst song I've heard from the new album thus far. It was a huge failure in the United States. Let's just pretend it never happened.

I don't know how I feel about this song. It's nice, but there are parts I'm not fond of (the "m-m-m-m-madness" reminds me of "Poker Face") and it seems like Matt is forcing himself to sound soulful at times. I need for this to grow on me in order to end up really liking it. I agree with Red that this isn't really ideal for a lead single, though. Survival would be more ideal (I really don't get the hate for the song).

Those people complaining are Muse fans, and it's no surprise that they're flipping out over this, they've been bitching and whining for the past few albums. They still don't understand that Muse isn't interested in sticking to one sound. They should just go stan for Nickelback instead since they want a band who just repeats itself and never evolves.
