Well, some dumb A&R found a struggling, beautiful singer-songwriter/Craig David video girl, got her signed, got Jay Z's backing and marketed her as the new Rihanna, image overhaul and all.... But forgot to get her decent songs to record in the process.
As everyone else has said, Hot Right Now is the only listenable song she's got, and it isn't even hers.

I think she's great! And I hope her album can make her a bigger star. She has the potential.
And btw, since it's Rihanna stans visiting this thread; Her debut is already better than Rih's first 3 albums
How We Do is perfect. Deal.

I'm sorry but a Rihanna stan can't say that anyone sucks especially when Rihanna can't sing to save her life. Good A&Rs though who pick amazingly catchy singles and tracks for her. I do like her albums GGGB and on, but yes...
Rihanna's debut wasn't too hot either.

Except Rihanna was treated as a 2nd class citizen in her label because she had competition like Teairra Marie that would get all the atention, Rita Ora is already working with producers that Rihanna worked with in her peak, Rita is failing to deliver and if she can't do it now, she will never do it, which it will happen, she can be cute all she wants (which she isn't), she can have a good voice (she sings good but her toine is basic as ****) she can dress like Rihanna all she wants but one thing she will never get is, star power, it's clear she wasn't born with it. Fact is Rita Ora is already being treated as a major star unlike Rihanna in her debut and has yet to have a hit as big as Pon De Replay.
Now DEAL and remain thinking that Rita will happen

You didn't even hear her album yet.
There's no way it's better than GGGB.

Dang someone's mad.
I thought Rihanna was given a fair chance with her debut. Her and Teairra were doing two diff genres. Rihanna was supposed to be this Pop Island girl and the single worked. First we had Lumidee's "Uh Oh" then the next summer it was Nina Sky's "Move Ya Body" and then it was Rihanna's "Pon De Replay". Unfortunately nothing else made a huge splash from her debut and then she went back in and came different for album #2. Rita can do the same and with her voice...if she does it right it'll def work. You have to be kidding about star power...Look at Rihanna's first performances and interviews vs. Rita's.
And the style thing is so old. Rita's been doing her style while she was waiting for her release. Rihanna got inspiration from London (where Rita is FROM). Y'all really can't be serious with that. Rita was blonde first too. No one is running around crying about RIhanna copying that. Rita is inspired by Gwen anyway and yet Rihanna stans "Oh shes copying red lipstick and blonde hair"...Never heard of Gwen?

Rita may be on the cover of magazines, but she hasn't even really been on American TV. People are acting like she's on every channel, every show. Maybe in the UK but not in the US. Roc Nation still has work to do.

I am also a rihanna fan and once called myself Navy but I don't get all the hate from Rihanna fans in general on Rita, I also don't get the fact people call her music "rihanna rejects" or "basic". Rita is just on her debut, she can always built from this, nobody's debut is perfect. Loads of Rihanna fans call her first 2 albums "mixtapes", that is not for nothing. And so what that Rihanna got not the backing and that her label put the spotlight on Teairra Marie, instead of her, Rihanna debuted in a whole different era. Rita is lucky she got this big backing, why blame her for that and use it against her, there is no competition like the whole Teairra vs. Rihanna thing.
Also the argument about the fact that Rita uses the same producers that Rihanna has worked with is pathetic, labels always try to get their artists the hottest producers, same for the fact that loads of Interscope artists have worked with RedOne and now are working with the same writers and producers as Lana Del Rey.
And one thing, Rita's style may have some things in common with some styles of Rihanna's TTT era, but the fact is that Rita has the style she has for some time now and Rihanna basically inspired her style on some parts of the UK London-style/fashion, and that is where Rita lives......
Rita is just at the beginning of her career, if you don't want to give her a chance, good for you, but this hate is pathetic. Rihanna fans bash Rita the same way that some Beyoncé fans did with Rihanna when she begon, and look what happened.....

I thought I was the only one who thought this. She needs something more soulful to suit her voice. If not, she needs superior production. I feel like the production on the songs are a tad bit tacky.
I still like her though.

There are a lot of these new girls (and guys) with all this hype on and off the internet. It's understandable, but an artist can not reach TRUE success and impact until they actually smash. That's why no one can seriously compare her to Rihanna --- hate Rihanna all you want, but the girl already has her place among legends and musical royalty secured. I think for Rita (and many others tbh) to smash she needs a "Tik Tok." She clearly has people who are willing to stan for her because of the hype. Now she needs to appeal to the masses as a niche artist --- one who brings to the game what no other artist is currently. "How we do (Party)" obviously won't cut it. She's got to be innovative with an innovative sound, look, everything.

^If Rita doesn't have star power, then why is her label giving her the same material as they give to Rihanna; their most successful artist atm? Some people are just so ****ing pressed. There is potential there and her label does realize that, apparently. And let's not even with the image and style. Rita's been that way since like forever, and we've got footage, pictures, videos, etc. from 2009 to back this up. If anything, Rihanna's recent style is inspired by Rita. And then again, Rita is inspired by Gwen.
If people are going to write her off already, then fine, that's your loss. I mean, did Pon de Replay and If It's Lovin' That You Want get everybody hooked on Rihanna? No. Some people have huge debuts (Gaga, Britney, Mariah) while others need some time before they achieve success (Rihanna, Adele, Destiny's Child).
I do agree that Rita's not living up to the hype just yet, but let's not pretend that half of TTT is any better than what Rita's been serving
