The plot does seem confusing. I think that girl was his ex. I'm assuming the cops chased them because since the bank was being robbed, the cops were already outside the bank waiting for the robbers to come out. Since Adam ran out with a gun (which you can see him throwing away), they confused him as a robber. So he's running away from the cops. After all the car chases and explosions, the first thing he does is call his ex.
In the lyrics of the song, it's about a past relationship.
But I don't understand why he wouldn't just surrender himself and tell them he's not a robber. ![huh?](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/7be5c36a.gif) It just works for the sake of the music video.

Adam would never surrender to anything

Not even when that's the only way to cope with things...
I actually think the end is cathartic.
It's like saying some things that are NOT meant to work just won't, even if there were no real mistakes or real culpable points... you get so drained and out of forces you have to just accept consequences, even the most dramathic, because no work over or make up could bring the life back to when those qrong turns didn't happen.
It's like saying a reality turning wrong in such intricated and absurd way can't be remade simple, and if you realize it, then the only way to move on is to just... destroy that reality, and start new (any which way).
With a huge drama in this case (that's what he likes... sort of Ancient Greek dramatic crave he has!)
I think the video is rather enjoyable actually.
