Well, the most obvious example to me is "Free Xone". If I were to place that song in the middle of Erotica, I wouldn't even notice that it wasn't supposed to be there
The Velvet Rope : It's a really deep album. It takes a while to GET IT. The lyrics cover a wide array of topics. Sex, depression, abuse, happiness, love, self-esteem, heartbreak, freedom, confidence. Standout tracks are the title track, "Anything," "Together Again" "Empty" " I Get Lonely." Some songs have aged gracefully, while others will forever be stuck in that "90's era," but there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. The album was also very cohesive and flowed well. The sex songs weren't raunchy, but more of a story about two people who love each other making love. The quality and production of the music is better than most R&B songs of the 90's though. She could of cut off some songs. Although she isn't' known for her voice, I applaud her for trying new things with it. The raw strong vocals on "What About" were nice to hear and then I heard moments of "sanging" on "Empty." I wish she would stop whispering, because behind that she does have a beautiful angelic-like voice. It's very pleasant to the ears. From a writing standpoint, it is the best. Lyrics show diversity, and really show that she was GOING THROUGH SOME ****!
Butterfly: The career defining album. She's free, and finally getting freaky. Although the writing becomes a bit redundant on certain songs, the songs are still great. Great melodies, background vocals. I do feel Mariah could of went even deeper and cut out the fluff. Call out Tommy for the bastard he was. "4th of July" is my favorite along with "Breakdown." I like "The Roof" also. This is one of the albums you play when it's raining. Very calming. Mariah picked the best people to work with on certain songs. The remixes were even better, and could of been on the original album. Her voice was also smooth like butter, no doubt the best vocals out of the 4. If you're going by vocals, vocal production and things like that, she would have the best.
Ray of Light: It was about dam time. Madonna was still big in the 90's but she was kind of decreasing in popularity and she was being overshadowed by the likes of Mariah, Whitney, Janet, TLC, and pretty much everyone. This album finally brought her back in the front. The eerie and unique sound, the strange but mindblowing production. I really like some of these songs, and I have never heard any album tracks by Madonna. in fact I can only remember like 4-5 of her songs off the back of my head. I like the sound of "Frozen." William Orbit really took Madonna to the next level. On the negative side, some songs begin to sound too similar. It could be because she's approaching most of the songs with the same vocal approach. Maybe that was the sound she was going for with her voice. She did change it up on "Ray of Light (title track)" If we're going by production, this album would be #1. She really experimented with a new sound. It was a risk, but it pulled off.
Impossible Princess: I heard influences of Madonna's album in some of the songs. I don't know what she was going through at this time, and I don't know much about her career, but this album was really eerie sounding, sometimes too eerie and boring. It almost came off like she was trying too hard to be deep and mysterious. Fortunately, she switched it up and pumped up the energy in songs like "Did it Again." I really like "Jump" and "Breathe" also. If we're going by anything, this album would be #4, sorry. The only Kylie song I ever knew was "Can't get you out of my head" and I just found out she made that song
THESE HAVE 2 BE IN THE TOP 14 IDC (In no particular order) Never heard a lot of these. 4th of July reminds me of her other song "Melt Away."
