I shall consult with The Prophet on doing a top ten dub songs of 2011 list. After all, We do listen to the readers.
But back to the albums for now.
36.
"Smoke Ring For My Halo" by Kurt Vile
Kurt Vile was kind enough to write a song about The Prophet ... months in advance. Maybe Kurt Vile is a prophet too? The rest of the album is pretty darn good too. Relaxing time music, that is also very groovy. And tubular. In addition to "Jesus Fever", "Society Is My Friend" is a song worth checking out as well. I'll get the link!
How awesome does Girl With The Dragon Tattoo look? Just wanted to get that out there.
35.
"Reptilians" by Star****er
If you like Passion Pit or The Flaming Lips then Star****er may be that hot new band you were looking for, as they kinda sound like a combination of the two. This guy (and Tebow) is a big fan of both of those bands, so Star****er making the list was an easy call.
How good were the albums this year? Each album listed feels it could easily be a top 20 record.
34.
"Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson is a frequent attendee of these year end countdowns. Every single or album has shown up somewhere along the ways, "Stronger" is no different. Standouts are "What Doesn't Kill You" and the above "You Loved Me", both of which should be singles in the future. Current single "Mr Know It All" has a fantastic drum beat. I don't care if its a computer or a person, it is awesome either way.
And I'll be back tomorrow with more goodies. If I could digital distribute hot fudge sundaes, I would give one to everybody on this site.
Here is the next part of the countdown for all you Tebowners
33.
"Rome" by Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi
Danger Mouse is one of the best producers in all of the land. Not only does he have time to make a new Black Keys record, he puts this little beauty together with Daniele and a couple of friends (Jack White and Norah Jones among others). Gives me the vibes of a spaghetti western. So if you were watching The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and really liked the music, then Rome would be a good place to go.
32.
"Thank You Happy Birthday" by Cage The Elephant
What does Cage The Elephant mean exactly? Some would say "choking your chicken" another would say "you think everything means that, but in this case you're right". Now I'm not sure if Beavis and Butthead double checked their facts, but I'm inclined to believe them. I like Cage The Elephant cause you know exactly what they're going to give, fast rockin and some occasionally sloppy guitar solos that still really cool.
31.
"Kaputt" by Destroyer
When I heard the name Destroyer i was expecting something a little more extreme. What I got was a fantastic fusion of genres, somewhere between indie, jazz, blues, and experimental. You gotta love those horns. This is the only album I've heard from them, but I'm sure the rest are great too.
Now I gotta finish my essay for my history final. Hate doing work!
Only a couple days till the Tebowner Nation witnesses the castration of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. In the meantime, here is more music.
I believe we were just entering the top 30. So kick back, get your cocoa, and enjoy some great music.
30.
"Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds" by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds
For those not in the know, Noel and Liam Gallagher form the band Oasis. Now everyone can agree that Oasis is amazing, but fans often disputed which of the brothers was more important to the band. After seeing Liam sing live, I immediately boarded Team Noel. Turns out, High Flying Birds sounds exactly like Oasis without Liam, who knu? Turns out, that Noel is still awesome. Your move Liam, I eagerly the next Oasis sans Liam album.
29.
"Wounded Rhymes" by Lykke Li
Lykke Li was a mini Adele in 2011. Not commercially of course, but that big voice of hers had a lot of people taking notice. Not surprisingly, Lykke Li is from the great nation of Sweden, which has quickly turned into my go-to country for international music. Those nords know how to groove! More on that later.
28.
"Mylo Xyloto" by Coldplay
I am a rare breed of Coldplay fan. I hate hate hated them during the Parachutes era and the first half of Rush of Blood era. Why? Not entirely sure. Probably the same reason alot of people hate them today. Coldplay have a great way of tweaking their sound so simply that it never unnerves you, but you can hear consistent growth as artists. "Hurts Like Heaven", "Paradise", "Charlie Brown", and "Major Minus" are the albums standouts.
Back with more tomorrow. Coming up is plenty more greatness
