I'm not denying that it isn't because of impeccable timing. However, it's not like the other girls weren't around when she was rising to power; it's just that no one saw how to take advantage of this new digital world or took initiative like she did. We look at aggregation sites like FameCount, and sure, now we see Bieber and Rihanna closing in on Gaga. That is
not how it started out.
Gaga EXPLODED. It was unreal. She went from having to no views to obliterating Britney as the most-viewed artist on the web (at the time). She rose to the top of everything social and everything media. Now, it's necessary to do these things to remain competitive. You have to be excited about your music, you have to have a presence and a fanbase and get other people excited as a music.
