No.. I thought her name and the general hype surrounding Rih was enough to atleast get them both top 20, but evidently not.

However, for California King Bed, I knew it would not hit #1, but I thought it would have reached Top 10 at least, because usually her ballads (Unfaithful, Hate That I Love You, Take A Bow) goes Platinum and Top 10. Plus, California King Bed was a little different, had a tiny country twist to it. Oh well, all your songs can't always be a hit.

Yeah, I wasn't suree, I thought it had hit number one in at least two countries. But it did only get there in Poland. I'm not convinced that it's peaked here in the US though, but I'm not expecting anything miraculous at this point. I think that if she'd squeeze in another performance it could get into the Top 40. And yeah, when looking at her previous ballad's performances you'd definitely expect a lot from California King Bed, but it just didn't turn out that way. It has performed similar to Te Amo though, maybe a bit less successful, but they've had similar peaks from a worldwide perspective.

I had a bad feeling about Man Down. California King Bed was one I thought would eventually take off.

EXACTLY!
I thought there would be promo, so I pictured CKB going top 5 and Man Down peaking near the top 30 if not in the top 30. But since there's been no promo they've bombed. I just don't understand why there was no promo. Did Rihanna and Def Jam HONESTLY believe these would smash on their own?

No, then again I'd never think in a million years they'd joint release. CKB would've done great under an individual release worldwide and got released during American Idol promo and she promoted her damn songs. That was bad promo and timing tied in with the joiny release. Man Down was not gonna be a smash song, but it could've been a top 30 hit under urban and itunes.

They both had flop written on them from the beginning. Man Down is way too urban influenced for crossover appeal and CKB is way too boring and no offense but besides Take A Bow, nobody is here for Rihanna singing ballads. She needs to stick with the easy to catch on to, repetitive type of songs she's been doing. Every time she tries to take a risk it ends up backfiring ala Rockstar 101, Man Down, CKB. And no What's My Name, Rude Boy or anything else written by Ester Dean or produced by StarGate for that matter isn't a risk.

No. I could of sworn California King Bed would be a mega #1 summer smash.
And I expected Man Down to hit #1 on Rythmic.

CKB? U.S. Flop, maybe? (and yes, maybe?)
it peaked 8 on UK, The 3rd biggest chart in THA WORLD
just because it "flopped" on US, doesn't mean it flop WORLDWIDE
plus, thanks to the Nivea thing, almost everyone knows it in my country.
Man Down, well, it needs like NOW to be released to Pop, a thing that we know, it's going to happen.

Well at the end of the day she is an artist and part of being an artist is to take risks, whether they will pay off or not. Also how is she to evolve as an artist if she doesnt take risks?
First of all CKB is not a FLOP. It has gone #1 in two countries and top ten in twelve others, basically it was a hit almost everywhere but the u.s, where i could have sworn it would smash the hardest.
As for man down it had flop written all over it. Atleast its smashing in france.

I love that F.A.M.E is criticizing Rihanna for not taking risks when he stans for HIM of all people. Like he takes risks? No shade, I love Chris' music, but let's be honest and real here. Chris is one of the safest artists in modern day music, so calling Rihanna safe is hilarious from him, to be honest.
