Your advice is dumb. You're basically telling people to shut up and deal with stuff. If you told people throughout history that's the way to solve things...
and your comparison is dumb. staying 5 min extra is no big deal and if you can't deal with that you shouldn't work in places where you can't close down before the customers are out of the store
Oh, I'm guessing you're a retail employer? Where do you work then? And I didn't even say we stay behind 5 minutes extra luv, often 15-20
There's nothing worse than someone coming in to shop minutes before you close.
It's just as annoying as when a customer pops their head in the door 5 mins before you open and say "Are you open?" Yeah, the door is closed, but we're open. Come on in.
Girl no. You still get paid for those 5 remaining minutes.

Tbh my new biggest hate in retail is when customers have to wait more than 5seconds at the register and will stare you down until you serve them like bihhhh i have 100 other things i need to do aswell you can wait for 20 seconds
I feel you, but you just have to grit your teeth and smile. What annoys me more is customers who come in and destroy the displays. I know we get paid to do things which include cleaning up after customers, but it doesn't mean you HAVE to make a mess. The worst is when I'm folding clothes and somebody is going through the clothes on the same table that I'm cleaning and ruining everything I just cleaned, and then they look up and smile.
Omg I hate this and I don't even work at a retail! When I see all the clothes on the floor, sometimes food I'm like . I always pick them up and try to find where they were in the first place. I feel really sorry for you, it must be so annoying.
Tell that to a server in a restaurant It takes about an hour for a table to leave
Yesterday (once again) we had a couple walking in 1 minute before closing time (11PM)
Once I had a party of 12 ratchet people who came 20 minutes before closing time at 10:40PM, didn't leave until 12:30AM and tipped NOTHING
It's so painful ----- I swear if I'm ever shopping and get a 20 minute closing announcement, I begin finishing up and heading for the exit.
Where I work I literally have to repeat over and over after the store is officially shut that we are close because people are in the change rooms etc.
Especially when you leave 20-30 minutes late because of them and don't get paid.

true. people are honestly dumb and they don't realize that if a store closes at 6pm that means all customers should be done with their shopping and outside already. it does not mean you should come in a minute before closing because it's still 'open'. you won't be done shopping in a minute.
people need to be more respectful. we all want to go home. don't be a douche.
I feel like customers that do that should be kicked out of the store at closing, if they are in the store anytime after closing they should be asked to leave since normal business hours are now over.
What most of you don't realize (the ones who are bashing the OP) is that there also policies and procedures that HAVE TO be followed at closing time. Particularly the register tills need to be pulled and locked up to be balanced out and sent to corporate. People who insist on coming in at the last minute are incredibly inconsiderate that we employees have to stay extra late just to deal with them.
I always make a point of announcing at 15 minutes, 10minutes and 5 minutes before my manager locks up the doors at closing to ensure people get out. Once I had a customer ignore the announcements (was still there after 11pm) and expected me to ring him up even though my till was taken. Like, no, get out; you already had enough time to get what you need. Plus I can't ring you up without a till. My register doesn't operate without one.
