AHFOD is more well thought out, flows better, more structured thematically, while being more diverse. AHFOD is an album, an experience, not a collection of songs.
I don't think they've declined in quality. They just left the depressing theme and started doing more happy/pop songs since MX. X&Y and Viva remain their best.
I'll never get the deal with some Coldplay fans. They don't target only one album like the other fan bases. I've seen people here claiming AROBTH is their worst album, but I've seen people claiming the same thing about X&Y, VLVDAHF, MX, GH and AHFOD. Shouldn't you guys just drop your stan cards??
Their albums declined in quality from Ghost Stories and landed in a massive slump with their last (Up & Up, Birds, HFTW are exceptions).
They also managed to alienate a lot of their core fanbase. I know tons of people who were super disappointed with both, me included.
Adventure Of A Lifetime is one of their best tho. Best ever! Also one of their most critically acclaimed tracks. People were immediately turned off because AHFOD is a Pop album. The hate has no foundation.
Also I wouldn't say they've alienated a lot of their fanbase since the album is a huge success and the tour will probably be the biggest one of the year.
Not when A Head Full Of Dreams is their worst. The best songs on X&Y >>> the best songs on AHFOD
Anyway , I love X&Y. Speed of Sound is underrated, Fix You, Talk, A Message, Swallowed in Yhe Sea are great! I miss alternative Coldplay

I've seen in most polls on here and other forums that X&Y tends to be the favorite though

Exactly.
But this album has Fix You, which trumps everything.
