They just have nothing interesting in them. Lady Gaga was the last one. No real pop sensation came after her.

also cuz every main pop girl debuted in the era where avant garde over the top were cool so they managed to build and establish their own image.
now these b- list pop girls are going for laid back , minimalistic route the simpler the cooler so they have no iconic looks, own sound, fads also not having any appeal so there's that

Zara's barely 18 yet she already has three global hits with not even an album title/release date on the horizon. She's doing fine!

Except Taylor is a bit different because even though she wasn't considered main she was still doing her numbers. When she actually wanted to be main and make pop music, she was. ![deadbanana2](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/bananas/deadbanana_zps933fcf47.gif)

None of them have a really distinct quality that sets them apart from the others unlike the main pop girls Rih, Gaga, Taylor, Katy

I would make a case for Miley but ATRL refuses to acknowledge her so.

There is nothing new about them. They are boring. They ride on the past pop girls successes which makes them look like a wannabe and unoriginal. There is no originality in the mainstream music industry.

True! However, all these girls became main pop girls when it was easier to go multi-platinum or even platinum. No matter how many successful singles these girls get, a lot of them struggle to achieve platinum with ease. Even some of the established pop girls are limping to that certification.
The goalposts have moved and ATRL isn't completely sure what they are yet.

Because the main pop girls (Gaga, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Rihanna and Katy) are still relevant and successful, when they'll be too "old" they'll be replaced.
edit: I could see Zara Larsson getting huge in the future tho (as some of you said). Lush Life is a bop.

That's actually a good point. I do think it is harder to "stand out' as a new girl especially when the success of the main girls is already so big. Then again, this has happened before with the girls who now hold legend status before our main girls came along.

Because current popgirls are still dominating and literally block the new generation's chance
Like Taylor dominating Q4 2014 - Q4 2015, Meghan, Ariana, and Iggy didnt stand a chance
Then we thought Ariana and Selena will fill Katy/Rihanna's part in music industry with their potential to be #1, yet none of them have been successful so far, and Rihanna is back, without a lot of promo, she got #1 for 9 weeks
Then we had Adele and Beyonce whose music are discussed til this half year. Remember Focus being totally blocked by Hello, and now, Dangerous Woman's potential are shaded by Lemonade's impact
Also Katy, even she has taken break for almost 3 years, ppl still wait for her music, even reaction to that leaked track was so positive
I can see Ariana to fill the position soon

Sorry but she's just not pop girl material, Rita Ora/Bebe at best.

Ariana can still become one, imo, but she needs more time.

Miley's sold almost as many albums as Gaga and Rihanna and has sold more albums than Katy. What exactly is she missing?
Ariana will definitely get there. We underestimate the popularity of the newer popgirls because their streams outweigh their sales but Ari is about to get a Gold certification for DW and the record is still brand new. Her first album is Platinum and her second is eligible for 3x Platinum. That's about all it takes to be a main popgirl.

Because they're not doing anything great, the music is mediocre, the performing skills aren't up to par, they have no impact etc etc...
I only see it for Ariana but even she's on a decline.

Do you honestly think that's all it takes to be main?
Sales, streams, popularity with 0 impact isn't necessarily building up to being a main girl. I love Ariana but her weaknesses are less about her numbers and more about her impact. What might save her in the long run is that she has the voice.

Ariana and Miley are the closest, but as others said, all of them are so young, they still have a lot to achieve.

And? All the main girls had underperforming Era's. 4 and ARTPOP, to name some. Justin also had Journals but came back with Purpose.
